E FUN's APEN Touch8 Transforms Displays into Windows 8 Touch Screens
You took the plunge and got Windows 8 on your pre-Windows 8 notebook. Awesome! It’s not a bad OS. But, you also don’t have a touchscreen on your old computer, so you can’t really use Windows 8 to its fullest. Less awesome.
Fortunately, a big help is coming from a somewhat unexpected source. E Fun, better known for its budget tablets, is releasing the APEN Touch 8 System, designed specifically to bring touchscreen capabilities to non-touchscreen devices. The system has two components – a stylus and a small device that clips onto the side of your monitor, and is powered via USB. That device is a multi-touch screen digitizer, which will work for monitors up to 15.6” in size. There won’t be anything that goes over your screen – just clip the device to the side of the monitor and let it work, although you’ll have to use the stylus provided to take advantage of the touch capabilities.
The APEN Touch 8 System will also be plug-and-play, so you can just plug it in and use it out of the box. E Fun will be showing off their new device at CES in a few days. After that, you can expect a Q1 2013 release and an $80 price tag.
