Is this the first official killer app for the Ford Sync AppLink in-car entertainment system? Might very well be.
Spotify is coming to Ford vehicles equipped with the Sync entertainment system (or infotainment, whichever you prefer). As it is with all apps on Ford’s in-car smart system, controls will almost exclusively be executed using your voice. You’ll be able to do the basics – pause, play, and skip tracks by speaking, but there are many more options available. Saying “now playing” will get you the information of the song currently playing, and you can start building up your ideal road trip playlist over time just by saying “road trip” to add the song currently playing.
You can turn shuffle and repeat on and off with voice control, and can initiate a radio station based on an artist, song, or album. You’ll be able to play specific playlists by speaking their titles, or just start playing your whole library. Recently played and similar music are two self-explanatory voice commands, and you’ll be able to star and unstar items. To make things even more convenient, playlists and Spotify radio stations can be saved to your car’s radio presets, as well.
Lastly, if someone sends a recommendation to you, the Spotify app will give you a verbal notification. Responding with a “yes” will instantly start playing whatever song, artist, or album your friend has sent to you.
So far, Ford has only confirmed an updated iOS app in the works for use with the AppLink system, which will be available “soon.” No word on offerings for other mobile operating systems yet.
