Hasbro Transforms Bejeweled into Board Game
Apparently, Hasbro has made turning every essential time-wasting app into a board game this year. In the fall, we’ll be seeing Tetris board games, but we won’t need to wait nearly as long for Hasbro’s new line of Bejeweled board games.
The video below shows the Bejeweled board game in action. It also asserts that Bejeweled is a game for girls, which is fascinating and definitely news to me. The game itself is played just like it is on the app – you’ll have a grid and 91 jewels. Players will fill up the grid and put the leftover jewels in the bag, then take turns swapping jewels and making matches of three, four, or five. The big difference is that in a board game, someone has to actually win, which is a foreign concept for the Bejeweled franchise. Every time you make a match, you’ll take a coin the corresponds to the color of the jewels. Collect a set of coins in three different colors, and you win.
Bejeweled Frenzy will be a card game version of Bejeweled, where players will have to match jewels and collect cards. Bejeweled Frenzy will also come with a code that will net players four rare gems in Bejeweled Blitz on Facebook. Bejeweled Blitz will also be the name of a board game, which will involve building towers and, of course, matching gems. There will be a time limit (can’t call it Blitz for no reason), so it should be a faster-paced, more exciting version of the game.
The Bejeweled board game and the Bejeweled Frenzy card game will be available sometime this spring, for $20 and $15, respectively. Bejeweled Blitz will be coming out in the fall, with a $25 price tag.
