The Incipio Stowaway Case for iPhone 5 Review

Who doesn’t love secret compartments and hidden features? The Incipio Stowaway Case for iPhone 5 has both. The case discreetly stores and hides cards and cash, plus it has a built-in stand great for watching movies.

The greatest feature of the Stowaway case is that it looks like a regular iPhone case. In fact, it kind of resembles Speck’s CandyShell case, which has a soft rubbery core with a hard plastic exterior. The Stowaway is just barely thicker than a regular case and no heavier.

On the back of Stowaway is a compartment that opens up to reveal the back of iPhone. This compartment can comfortably store 3 credit cards; It could just as easily store business cards, ID cards, money, or notes. The compartment opens easily and can be done with one hand, but it’s actually done a good job of staying closed on its own. The compartment dual-functions as a kickstand for iPhone in landscape mode. There’s a grip at the end of the popout compartment that allows the stand to work in a few different angles.

The finish on the Stowaway is quite nice and pretty simple. It’s almost entirely a high gloss finish with rubberized accents in an alternating color. There’s a rubberized bezel running around iPhone’s screen; this helps offer nice screen protection. Incipio doesn’t just stop there with protection, they include a screen protector and also a protector for the back of your phone so it’s not exposed when opening the rear compartment. The Stowaway has great button overlays so you can easily access the lock and volume buttons. There are three cutouts on the bottom of the phone, they’re nicely sized, but very deep. That means its unlikely the Stowaway will work with any speaker or charging docks.

For a wallet case, the Incipio Stowaway Case for iPhone 5 is as sleek and usable as you’re going to find. The built-in stand is really a nice bonus feature. The size and weight is much more manageable than other similar products. Our only real gripe is that our black model started to scratch up in no time, we’d definitely opt for a more colorful case like white on purple, cyan blue on white, gray on white, or gray on pink. While the Stowaway retails for $34.99, you can buy it for just over $16 on Amazon.com.
