Globalgig, the handy 3G mobile hotspot from Voiamo, has gotten even more attractive thanks to cheaper data prices and new countries.
Globalgig’s strength lies in providing cheap data while traveling abroad – their rates are the same, regardless of where in the world you are. That said, their rates are pretty competitive with domestic data rates, especially with their new price cuts – Globalgig’s monthly plans are now $17 for 1 GB, $25 for 2 GB, $45 for 5 GB, and a new tier – 10 GB, which you can get for $80 per month.
Of course, there are some caveats – Globalgig only works with local 3G networks that it has agreements with, so don’t expect anything like 4G speeds. Also, for a product that is supposed to excel in international data use, it doesn’t work in very many countries. At the outset, it was limited to three – the United States, the UK, and Australia. That number has been expanded to seven with the recent addition of Hong Kong, Ireland, Sweden, and Denmark.
You can also now get the Globalgig hotspot itself for free, although that will require an 18-month contract, which probably isn’t worth it unless you travel to one of those seven places very often. If you go ahead with Globalgig’s regular monthly flat rates, the cost of the Globalgig hotspot is unchanged, at $119. You do get to keep it, instead of getting it as a rental.
