Rumors of hell freezing over and an Apple product labeled “budget” being released have been swirling for a few months now. Now, they’re being fostered by what must surely be an incredibly unreliable source – a company that makes knock-off Android phones that look like other, more famous phones.
The company, Techdy, is showing pictures of what is supposed to be the upcoming budget iPhone, which would be a scaled down, 4” version of the iPhone 5. It wouldn’t be shocking for a knock-off company to create a convincing mock-up just to drum up publicity for their own products, so it’s hard to say how seriously anyone should take this. When you look at the supposed iPad 5 rumors from companies who were already creating cases for said as-of-yet-non-existent device, it’s starting to look like there’s a growing trend of small companies cooking up semi-believable rumors about major brands as means of cheap advertising.
It doesn’t help that the photos from Techdy look a little too clean to be legitimate rumor photos. The video is even worse – produced almost to the point of unintentional satire, and without an actual product demonstration. Their supposed budget iPhone’s casing does match some other rumors, but it wouldn’t be surprising if this company just took those rumors and incorporated them into their own mockup.
Techdy is also making sure to tell everyone that, in addition to those totally genuine budget iPhone photos, their knock-off Android phone that looks just like it will be available very soon and you can totally put in an order now. So, you know. Seems legit.
