Lexus is proud of their 2014 Lexus IS. How proud? Proud enough to Instagram it not once, but 360 times.
Lexus used Instagram’s #WorldwideInstameet to summon 212 Instagrammers from all over the world to Angels Stadium in Anaheim, where they found a test track and a 2014 Lexus IS. There, they took an Instagram video, but not the kind that immediately springs to mind. Dispensing with a boring static 15 seconds of car driving, Lexus and their small army of mobile photographers created a stop motion video created from 360 shots of the Lexus IS in different positions around the track.
To plan the whole thing, Lexus reps used 3D mapping to pinpoint exactly where each photographer needed to be to get the right shot at the right time. Stabilization tools were provided, because blurry, shaky photos aren’t good enough for Lexus, let alone Instagram. The 212 photographers were all free to edit and filter their own one or two shots the way they saw fit, before slapping a common hashtag on their photos and uploading them to Instagram. The Lexus team then strung the photos together on-site, and created the final stop motion video.
And now, who knows? Maybe this is really the Instagram Video we should have been hoping for all along. And it was there, the whole time. You can see the finished product, the LexusInstafilm, below.
