The very distinctive BeoPlay A9 speakers from Bang & Olufsen have been on the market for sometime, but now the speaker, which has already won design awards, is getting an extra dash of style with three Nordic Sky editions.
If you’re not familiar, the A9, seen above, really is a speaker, despite looking like a tri-legged table folded up for storage. It’s a wireless speaker built for style – instead of knobs and dials, you get touch controls along the rim for adjusting volume, to keep everything looking clean and seamless. Inside, it’s a whole sound system – an 8” bass speaker, two 3” mid-range speakers, two 3/4” tweeters, and separate amplifiers for all three (a 160 watt amp for the bass, and two 80 watt amps each for the mid-range speakers and tweeters). It’s powerful, stylish, and DLNA certified (also works with AirPlay).
The new Nordic Sky editions of the A9 make a great speaker better. The face of the speakers is changed to one of three color schemes based on the summer night sky far up north in Scandinavia – twilight, dusk, and dawn. Twilight has kind of a blue tint to it, while dawn is a darker green and dusk features a glowing red.
They look fantastic, as you can see above, and the speaker had won awards already, anyway. That means they won’t come cheap – the BeoPlay A9 Nordic Sky edition will sell for $2,700. Bang & Olufsen says the speakers will be available in their physical and online stores sometime in September.
