That the BoostTurbine 4000 has a 4000 mAh rechargeable lithium-ion battery that will at least get close to charging your average smartphone twice over is enough to make it pretty attractive by itself. What puts it over the top is the emergency back-up – a good old hand-powered crank. Winding the crank for a minute will give you four minutes of talk time or a few texts worth of power. Basically, if you’re stranded somewhere, it’s unlimited emergency backup power. A solid investment.
The BoostTurbine 4000 is made from aluminum and weighs only nine ounces. You’ll have a microUSB cord, a USB port, and an LED charge indicator on your new rechargeable battery, too. When it becomes available (no word yet on when that will be), you’ll be able to buy it for about $80.
