Are Your Hands Ready for the Samsung Galaxy Mega?

In the land of the 64 oz. Double Gulp, the 6.3” phone is king. At least, that’s what Samsung is probably hoping with the upcoming stateside release of the Samsung Galaxy Mega, a supersized version of the Galaxy S4.

It sounds like it’s coming straight out of a Conan spoof, but the Galaxy Mega is very real – a hulking 6.3” phone. Unfortunately, the weight gain hasn’t been kind to the guts. This is a powered down version of the S4, with a 720p display, 1..5 GB of RAM and a 1.7 GHz dual-core processor. It will run Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, and will have an 8 MP camera with the swanky new Galaxy Camera interface. There will also be a microSD card slot on the side, good for expanding storage by up to 64 GB. It’s not been confirmed how much storage is coming along for the ride with the Mega, though. The battery will be 3,200 mAh and, interestingly, will be removable.

For those in the business world, the Galaxy Mega will be SAFE certified. All the new Galaxy features will be there, too. You’ll have Air View, where you can hover your finger over the screen for previews and Multi View, for multitasking with certain basic utility apps, like email and the web browser. WatchON will turn the Mega into a remote control for your television, while Easy Mode helps get first-time smartphone users accustomed to their new device.

The Samsung Galaxy Mega will be coming to the United States sometime this month, to AT&T, Sprint, and U.S. Cellular. We’ll have to wait for the individual telecoms to release pricing and availability specifics, but we do know the phone will come in Polaris White and Nova Black.
