It seems like everyone is making 2-in-1 devices that are tablet/notebook hybrids. Smartphone/tablet hybrids? Less common. But, ASUS has been cranking them out, and that won’t change in 2014 with the PadFone X.
A follow-up to the original PadFone, the PadFone X will be a 5” smartphone with a 1080p display that can be docked into a 9” tablet, When docked, you’re basically using your smartphone on a 9” display, including all calling functionality – not that you wanted a 9” phone, just letting you know it’s possible. Docking is completely seamless – you can tuck your smartphone into the tablet shell, and see whatever you were just running on your smartphone immediately on the tablet’s display. It’ll run the latest version of Android, 4.4 KitKat, and both smartphone and tablet shell will be housed in brushed metal. The PadFone X also doubles up on battery life – the tablet charges the smartphone automatically when docked.
We’re not sure yet when the ASUS PadFone X will become available or how much it will cost, but we do know that it will be exclusive to AT&T.
