Running low on storage space on your iPad? Add a little fuel to the fire – well, a lot, actually. The LaCie Fuel Wireless Drive is a mobile hard drive that syncs with Apple device wirelessly and provides a whole 1 TB of extra storage.
The Fuel drive, which is backpack/bookbag/purse-friendly, holds 1 TB of data, and uses its own Wi-Fi connection to sync with iPads, iPhones, and Macs. When connected to the Internet, then, Fuel can also act a a hotspot, so you can use the Drive to quickly share files with a few friends. If you need to sync or share files faster, there’s also a USB 3.0 port on Fuel. Fuel also comes with AirPlay compatibility, so you can stream or mirror content directly to AirPlay-enabled speakers or over Apple TV.
Fuel works with a companion Seagate Media app for file management. When using the app to root around your drive, you’ll see thumbnails for photos and videos and cover art for music to help make navigating your files a little more enjoyable, and maybe a little easier.
LaCie also announced the new Little Big Disk at CES, a Thunderbolt 2 drive aimed at media professionals. The Little Big Disk is capable of transfer speeds up to 1,375 MB per second, and packs in two 500 GB PCIe Gen 2 SSDs in Raid 0. What that all means is that media professionals can stream and edit 4k, 3d, and RAW files without a hitch. Not only that, but the thermoregulated fan only turns on when it’s absolutely necessary, but that’s kind of a moot point – it doesn’t make any noise when it’s on, anyway. All of this fits in a well-ventilated, aluminum frame small enough to fit in the palm of your hand.
The LaCie Fuel Wireless Drive will be available ‘soon’ for $200. The Seagate Media companion app is already available for free for iOS, Android, and Kindle. The Little Big Disk will be available sometime Q1 2014, but no price has been set yet.
