Barbie is heading back to basics, and dragging out her old black and white bathing suit from the depths of the closet. She has good reason for putting on her original set of clothing, though – her first ever appearance in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition.
Walter Iooss, who has long been a go-to guy for model shoots for the swimsuit edition, was in on the Barbie shoot that appears in the magazine this year. It’s classic Barbie, but the shoot is part of a larger campaign – #Unapologetic. Granted, I’m not 100% sure what Barbie herself has to be #unapologetic about, but the message is positive enough – telling girls everywhere to that there’s a wide world of possibilities out there for everyone, no matter who you are.
The #Unapologetic campaign, in addition to getting the Times Square billboard treatment earlier this month, is also coming with a brand new Barbie doll. It’ll be Barbie in her classic swimsuit, and you can pick her up on Target.com. You can also wait with bated breath for Barbie’s Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition debut, which should be hitting newsstands tomorrow.
