Samsung has made quite the splash at Mobile World Congress this year, announcing the Galaxy S5 and their next generation of smartwatches, including the Gear 2. As it turns out, the latter won’t just be a smartphone companion – it’ll be a pretty solid car companion, too.
Samsung has worked together with GM to create the OnStar Remote Link App, which basically turns the Gear 2 into a keyfob for your car. You can use the app directly on the watch to lock, unlock, and start your car remotely, from anywhere over a data connection. It’s also possible to activate the horn and lights using the app.
According to a GM rep, the OnStar Remote Link app is still being tested, but the company plans on having it ready to go and released before the year is up.
