Mario is taking another historic leap this year – into the world of action figures, thanks to Bandai and S.H. Figuarts. The new Mario action figure got a proper unveiling at the American International Toy Fair this year, with a huge display feature the action figure in, well, action.
S.H. Figuarts created a few displays that look like they came right out of a Super Mario game. Mario even gets airborne, with the help of some plastic stands. The pipes, goombas, green shells, bricks, mushrooms, and coins are all there, and the best part is that it isn’t just for show. In addition to the Mario action figure, you can get all of those other extras as accessories to create your own desktop Mario scene. The beginning of World 1-1 in Super Mario Bros. is a must.
The action figure itself is pretty cool – there are elbow, shoulder, knee, and hip joints that can be rotated, so you can get Mario into pretty much any pose you want. The figure stands 4” tall, and with the plastic stands, it’s pretty easy to get the jumping pose right – add in some question mark blocks, and it’s childhood (and adulthood, let’s be honest) all over again.
You can pre-order the Super Mario action figure on Entertainment Earth now for $25. You get a set of accessories with Mario, too, so it seems like a pretty good deal. Mario hits the pipes of the post office in July of this year.
