Braven BRV-X Takes Wireless to Extremes with New Rugged Speaker

Bluetooth speakers – that’s a crowded market. So, if you’re going to go for any niche, you’d better master it. That’s what the Braven BRV-X has tried to do in the world of rugged, outdoors Bluetooth speakers, and it’s tough enough to look like it’s a contender.

The Braven BRV-X is built. It has a rubberized exterior that can withstand falls and the elements, as well as sand, if you’re planning on taking it to the beach. There’s also an indoor/outdoor switch that changes up the audio output to suit your surroundings and a strap that will hold the speaker to bicycles or the more extreme vehicles you’re piloting. Either way, it’s a speaker that’s been made with the great outdoors in mind, every inch of the way.

Inside, there are custom HD drivers and an omnidirectional passive bass radiator responsible for the audio. There’s an integrated microphone if you want to use the BRV-X as a speakerphone, too. Battery life is put at about 12 hours, thanks to a 5,200 mAh battery that can be used to charge other devices while the speaker is running, if you need some extra juice for your smartphone while you’re out. And, if you grab two BRV-X speakers, you can use the built-in TrueWireless technology to link the two speakers together, creating true stereo sound.

The Braven BRV-X is available now for about $230.
