May 4 is still a ways off, but the Durham Bulls are keen on preparing early for Star Wars Day. That’s when the Bulls will lose their horns and pick up flashing lights and wheels, with some of the finest R2-D2 apparel this side of the galaxy.
The Durham Bulls, a AAA affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, will suit up in R2-D2 jerseys to celebrate Star Wars Day on May 4. I’m not sure whether Rays players are hoping they get sent down to the minors or Bulls players are desperately hoping they get called up before May 4. I’d like to believe the former. Either way, there will be one important winner coming out of this – after the game, the jerseys will be auctioned off, with the proceeds going to the Autism Society of North Carolina.
We’ve yet to hear how the Toledo Mud Hens, the two-year reigning champions of Star Wars Day minor league baseball, will respond. Considering that the Bulls threw the gauntlet down with everyone’s favorite droid, we’re expecting quite the clash. Can we just have these two teams play baseball with lightsaber baseball bats and Death Star baseballs?
