Skullcandy is following in the footsteps of many before them, and rolling out their very own line of headphones designed specifically for women. We’ve seen this idea brought to life in a variety of ways, from just slapping pink and purple onto a set of headphones to smart fashion accessories disguised as headbands. So, what’s Skullcandy’s take?
They’re definitely not reinventing the (feminine) wheel – all nine models in the new line look just like any other pair of headphones or earphones. There are some minor tweaks, but Skullcandy has been a little vague about exactly what those constitute. There’s something about how men and women hear differently, and how the audio is processed to account for that. The headphones and earphones have also been designed to be a better fit for women, but seeing as how women’s heads still come in all shapes and sizes, I’m not sure exactly what this means. Be that as it may, it seems like Skullcandy has been thoughtful about it, getting input from athletes like surfer Leila Hurst and snowboarder Kimmy Fasani.
The headphones are being produced under the Knockout name, while the earphones come in two styles, called Bombshell and Dime. All three come in three different designs – floral, geo, and robin. Robin accentuates a light, sky blue, while geo goes more for the punk look – black with silver-colored spikes. All nine models launch today, and are available from Skullcandy for between $30 and $100.
