Back in January, we took a look at the ASUS PadFone X at CES, the latest in ASUS’ trademark smartphone-tablet hybrid line. The high-end 5” smartphone, which comes with a 9” tablet dock, was promised as an AT&T exclusive. Today AT&T announced pricing and availability for the PadFone X, and for a two-in-one device, the price isn’t bad.
The PadFone X, which will run Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box, will sell for $200 with a two-year contract with pre-orders starting on June 6. It’s not yet clear when the device will actually ship, but you will be able to put those orders in online or in-store. If you’re interested in AT&T Next, AT&T’s installment payment program, you’re looking at $22.92 over 18 months or $29.80 over 12 months.
As any good high-end smartphone should, the PadFone X will work on AT&T’s 4G LTE network. So, for $200, you’re looking at a 5” 4G LTE smartphone that can become a 9” 4G LTE tablet – if you like what ASUS is selling, that seems like a pretty decent deal. There will also be a Bluetooth keyboard dock accessory, if you’re interested in making the PadFone X a three-in-one device.
