I’m betting the people behind this project didn’t know that a series of one-minute shorts on The Tracey Ullman Show would go on to be one of the longest running shows of all time when they bottled whatever it is they have in these bottles. But, this concoction of unknown contents was born at the same time as The Simpsons, and is now paying tribute.
Here are some bottles of Homer & Pieter Mondriaan and Marge & Peter Mondriaan, so named because of the combination of The Simpsons color scheme and the Dutch painter who so loved his straight black lines. What’s in the bottles? Probably wine, but the creators seem reticent. Also, apparently the ingredients for each bottle are different. So, it’s kind of like the mystery meat of the beverage world, I guess. Whatever it is, it’s been chilling since 1987, the year The Simpsons shorts first started showing up on Tracey Ullman. According to the label, there’s definitely alcohol in there, so that’s a relief.
Anyway, considering where The Simpsons has gone in the last few years, would it even be a surprise to see a Treehouse of Horror where the family gets turned into wine in some kind of a Soylent Green-style nightmare world? We should probably expect it. Or maybe not?
