Bose Cuts the Cord, Introduces Wireless SoundLink Speakers and On-Ear Headphones

Bose is going Bluetooth this week, introducing a brand new Bluetooth speaker and their first-ever set of wireless Bluetooth headphones as part of their SoundLink line of products.

The SoundLink Color Bluetooth Speaker goes for its own unique look, ditching the plain brick design we usually see. It’s tall and skinny, with a height of 5.3 inches and a depth of 2.1 inches. Weighing only 1.25 pounds, it can be stashed away in purses or bags easily for travel. Inside, there are dual-opposing passive radiators and two transducers, which should give the sound coming from this speaker a decent amount of punch, especially in the low range that Bose is known for. You can connect it to any Bluetooth-compatible device, and the speaker will remember the last eight devices it was paired with, while automatically connecting to the last two devices if possible. Battery life is passable at eight hours, and can be fully recharged within three hours. At release, the SoundLink Color Bluetooth Speaker will be available in black, white, blue, red, and mint. It’ll hit stores on September 25 for $130, and can be preordered now.

Bose promises balanced sound thanks to Active Equalization and TriPort technology on their SoundLink On-Ear Bluetooth Headphones. The headphones also have a dual-microphone array for taking calls, which can mitigate background noise. There’s also Adaptive Audio Adjustment, which changes the volume of your voice on the other end depending on the level of background noise around you. The headphones can connect over Bluetooth to up to two devices at once, and you can easily switch between the two. On one of the earcups, you’ll find a set of quick controls, like volume, skip track, and play/pause.

On the outside, the headphones have a fabric headband with nylon cushioning on the underside. The frame is made of stainless steel, but the headphones remain light at 5.5 ounces. You’ll get 15 hours worth of battery life on a full charge, but there is a quick charge feature that will get you two hours of battery life on 15 minutes of charging.

The SoundLink On-Ear Bluetooth Headphones are available now for $250 in black or white.
