Sol Republic is following up last year’s Deck wireless speaker with Punk, a tiny rugged portable speaker. The Sol Republic Punk is tiny but tough, with dust, water, and shock resistance. But what sets it apart from other portable wireless speakers is the 1/4″ threaded mount that lets you use the Punk with third party bike mounts, helmet mounts, and the like. There’s also a line-out (and line-in) port, so you can daisy chain a few of these together, too. Battery life should be pretty good considering the size of the Punk, at eight hours. And, just in case you need it, the Bluetooth range is an impressive enough 60 feet.
But perhaps what is most impressive about the Punk is that it sounds just as good and as powerful as Sol Republic’s much larger Deck speaker that was released in 2013. That makes the Punk a lot more powerful than comparable mini portable Bluetooth speakers like it. We can see this being a great stocking stuffer come December.
The Sol Republic Punk Wireless Speaker will retail for $70, and will come in black, red, or blue. We’ll have a full review up soon.
