The upcoming Lexus RC F is set to be one of the next great high-performance V8 cars on the market, marking brand new territory for Lexus. So, to give everyone a taste of what’s to come when production models start hitting showroom floors, Lexus is diving into more unfamiliar territory—virtual reality.
At auto shows touring the west coast, Lexus is featuring the RC F Rift experience. The physical rig features the steering wheel and pedals from the actual RC F, along with the Oculus Rift DK2 (2nd gen development kit) for eyewear, instead of the sweet shades you’ll normally be wearing when driving the RC F. Using the development kit, they’ve been able to gin up a racetrack for curious drivers to race around in their virtual RC F, along with an approximation of how the actual car will handle on the road. The sim looks like an unfinished Cruis’n USA track, but hey, Lexus aren’t exactly Turn 10 Studios when it comes to racing sims. It’s good for what it is.
Truthfully, I’d sooner hit this simulation up in my local arcade, if my local arcade still existed (awww), but if you’re in range of any auto shows on the west coast (and, eventually, other parts of the nation), go check it out.
