Valentino’s new pre-fall 2015 collection is truly out of this world. Designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli looked to the stars for inspiration, creating a celestial set of gowns, dresses, and capes. No, there are no hidden wearables sewn into the sleeves that will track your heart rate. Instead the patterns just speak for themselves. Shocking isn’t it?
It’s nice to see that our galaxy is still used as a muse.
Sometimes, using the cosmos as a fashion muse can be a bit much. Fortunately, this collection manages to clearly represent the theme while being understated enough to not look outlandish. A few garments look like they were lifted from a book of constellations and star charts, which look nice against a dark blue backdrop. More of the garments are dotted with stars, planets, and the swirls of galaxies, but they’ve been designed well enough to not look silly. Some of the evening gowns even look pretty upscale! Impressive stuff.
