Tell Siri to Turn Off the Lights with Lutron’s Caseta Kit

Last year, Lutron released their take on smart home lighting — the Caséta Wireless Lighting Starter Kit. The kit included dimmer switches, a remote, and a smart bridge that allowed you to control your home lighting from an iOS app. That smart bridge is getting a even smarter today, with Lutron announcing that their connected home device now features Siri commands thanks to Apple HomeKit integration.

Using voice commands issued through Siri, you can turn on or off all of the lights in the house, mostly handy for the end of the day to make sure all the lights are off before going to sleep. But, Siri will also be able to recognize all of the labels on your lights, so you’ll be able to tell her specifically to turn off lights in the kitchen or bedroom. Or, you can just ask whether or not the lights are on in the house or a specific bedroom, and Siri will respond in kind.

Now that their smart home lighting supports HomeKit, Lutron will get a bonus, too — they’ll be selling their starter kit at Apple Stores starting today. You can get the Caséta Wireless Lighting Starter Kit for $230, which includes the smart bridge, two dimmers, two remotes, and two pedestals to hold those remotes. The Lutron system works with any dimmable LED, halogen, or incandescent bulbs, so you won’t need to get any special bulbs directly from Lutron.
