Epson’s announcement today is going to be big news for anyone who still uses their printer a lot. To that effect, their new EcoTank line of printers are aiming to do away with the hassle and cost of replacing ink cartridges thanks to new ink tanks that can hold up to two years’ worth of supply.
Specifically, Epson says their new Supertank cartridge can hold 20 times more ink than a standard cartridge. If you’re worried that replacing all that ink is going to be costly when the time finally comes, it sounds like you won’t need to worry — you’ll be able to refill the cartridges yourself using bottles of ink that will sell for $13 each or in a set including black and color for $52. Not only is that more cost-effective for ink costs, it should dramatically cut down on the waste that discarded cartridges create. If you’re running a small or medium business, it looks like you have an easy way to free up some of that office supply budget for other uses.
Starting in September, Epson’s massive new ink tanks will be headed to a handful of Epson’s existing printers, including the WorkForce, WorkForce Pro, and Expression. Look for the Epson Expression ET-2500 EcoTank ($380), Expression ET-2550 EcoTank ($400), WorkForce ET-4500 EcoTank ($430), WorkForce ET-4550 EcoTank ($500), and the WorkForce Pro WF-R4640 EcoTank ($1,200) in stores and online sometime next month.
