Where else would the trailer for Finding Dory premiere than on the Dory’s own show? Ellen DeGeneres, who voiced the forgetful fish in Finding Nemo and is reprising her role for the new film, debuted the new trailer on Wednesday during her show, and it’s appropriately enough about finding old memories.
It looks like lots of familiar faces have kept on swimming since Finding Nemo — Marlin, Hank, Gill, Deb (and Flo), and Mr. Ray are all coming back for the sequel, which centers around Dory’s search for her long-lost family. Nemo will be back, too, but it sounds like they had to find a new voice actor for the little guy. That’s OK — it’s Dory’s show now.
Finding Dory kicks off with Mr. Ray talking about manta ray migration habits, which take them home. Dory then remembers she has one of those, and adventure ensues. In addition to the returning characters, there will be a few new friends including Destiny, a whale shark voiced by Kaitlin Olson. Olson is so far best known for her work on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia — needless to say, her work on this movie will be a little different than the usual. She has demonstrated her impressive singing talents on It’s Always Sunny, though, so she should have no problem complementing Dory’s pipes.
Finding Dory swims into theaters on June 17. Fingers crossed that Ellen will have even more to show us before (and after) the movie comes out.
