Polaroid Snap Touch Adds a Touchscreen to Their Instant Digital Camera

Polaroid is getting a little more hands-on with digital photography this year. Following in the footsteps of the first generation Polaroid Snap, Snap Touch combines the digital camera and instant printer of the original with a 3.5″ LCD touchscreen for framing shots. It’s instant photography, but a little less instant.

The Snap Touch has all the same features as the Polaroid Snap did, using the original’s Zero Ink printing technology to print out 2″ x 3″ shots in under a minute, but it now has a touchscreen! With the touchscreen you can preview your shots and change camera settings. The camera has also gotten a slight improvement, now with a 13 MP CMOS sensor that can take 1080p video as well as stills. The microSD card slot can now hold cards up to 128 GB, instead of the pretty low 32 GB limit on the Snap. And, according to Polaroid, the Snap Touch can be connected to the Polaroid Print App using Bluetooth, so the camera can be used as a mobile printer for smartphone photos, too.

It’s the perfect camera for the selfie-obsessed generation. With the self-timer and new selfie mirror, selfies can be framed perfectly. Takes away from the spontaneity of instant photography, but hey, the selfie is an art form. It takes time. Additionally, the instant digital camera offers three color filters — black and white, color, and vintage sepia — with the option to print with or without the iconic Polaroid borderThe printer paper is also adhesive, so yeah. Selfie stickers.

“As the original pioneers of instant photography, we at Polaroid have been dedicated to bringing products to market which fit our brand DNA of instant gratification, sharing, and fun throughout our history,” said Scott W. Hardy, President and CEO of Polaroid at Photokina 2016 camera tradeshow. “Today, we’re focused on designing products which meet the needs of modern consumers, but still trigger the emotional response of our legacy Polaroid cameras. There’s no better example of this than the Polaroid Snap. The instant digital camera boasts a fun and exciting design that’s unlike anything else on the market, and we’re incredibly excited to debut its successor, the Polaroid Snap Touch.”

The Polaroid Snap Touch can be preordered now for $180. The Polaroid rainbow border 2″ x 3″ premium ZINK paper is currently available at $13 for a 20-pack.
