Mufasa is back! James Earl Jones Joins Live Action Lion King Cast

Jon Favreau announced last Friday that he will be casting Donald Glover as Simba for his live action version of The Lion King. He also announced on twitter that James Earl Jones, the original voice actor for Mufasa, will be in the film as well.

Jon Favreau is known for his remake of The Jungle Book that came out last year. It captured the emotion and tone of the original animated version very well and has been declared one of the best movies of 2016. With his last film going so well, it’s no wonder why people are so intrigued by this (kind of) live action film. However, it’s not actually going to be live action, but it will be made up of animals and environment CGI and no actual human actors. Fortunately, Favreau has promised it’s going to look like the real thing.

Many are also excited to see the original voice actor of Mufasa being a part of the film. Though James Earl Jones is mostly known for his voice acting in Star Wars as Darth Vader, the animated version of The Lion King has been called one of the best films he’s played in, and definitely ranks high on his resume. It’s going to be great to see him back voice acting one of the most iconic characters in the movie.

James Earl Jones isn’t the only cast member to look forward to. Other cast members include Whoopi Goldberg, Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick, and Jeremy Irons. This leads to what some think to be the best A-list cast in quite a while, although not all of those original cast members will return.

Not only that, but it looks like Favreau is going to keep the CGI “live action” film as close to its original, animated version as possible. He’s even going so far as to have some of the songs that are part of the original soundtrack, so be ready to sing “Just Can’t Wait to be King” as loud as you did when you were a child.

Besides the cast and the soundtrack, not much else has been said about the film other than it is going to be “speed released”. Though, just going off these facts alone, there is definitely a lot of things to look forward to so far. With such huge success coming out of the recent Disney remakes, it’s no wonder people are so excited to see The Lion King remade.
