Age check time — Buffy the Vampire Slayer first aired on March 10, 1997, meaning the show has just turned 20 years old. That’s a long time! Plenty long enough for the cast of the show to set up a high school-style reunion this month to get the Scooby Gang back together.
For a change, we’re not talking about a reboot, revival, rehash, or any other thing that would put Buffy back on screen. Instead, Entertainment Weekly played the role of class president, organizing the reunion for the cast of the TV show. From the EW story, it really does sound like a high school reunion — chatting, pictures, and everyone sharing photos of their families. It fell a little short of a high school reunion for series creator Joss Whedon, who said the reunion was, “like a high school reunion but much worse because they all still look really great.”
Besides Whedon, Sarah Michelle Gellar, David Boreanaz, James Marsters, Nicholas Brendon, Charisma Carpenter, Emma Caulfield, Amber Benson, Alexis Denisof, Kristine Sutherland, Seth Green, Michelle Trachtenberg, and Alyson Hannigan all made the trip. Anthony Stewart Head wasn’t in attendance, but fortunately, this wasn’t an Aunt Viv situation — he wanted to attend, but had a rehearsal for a play he’s working on. The only bad blood from Buffy is still from the monsters themselves.
The EW print magazine will run a longer cover story about the reunion, but if you want to check out more for the time being, you can check out some of the shots EW got from the reunion. Unfortunately, it looks like they missed one high school reunion staple — doesn’t appear that they had a photo booth picture session, unless they’re holding out on us!
