The weather is improving, but that hardly means you need to make as drastic of a step as going outside (you can wait until Pokémon Go becomes good again for that). Netflix has a red hot April ahead, with plenty of great movies and binge material to keep us in bed all weekend. Don’t forget to lay out snacks within arm’s reach ahead of time!
Bill Nye Saves the World: Season 1 – April 21
We could probably start and finish here, but the first season of Bill Nye’s return doesn’t arrive until April 21, so we’re going to need some other stuff to tide us over. Nye’s new show has a more adult bent, directed at the grown-ups who grew up with Nye in their science classrooms as kids. Bill Nye and friends will go after viral Facebook garbage with hard science, so it should be a satisfying watch.
Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return – April 14
I watched some old MST3K episodes not too long ago and wished I hadn’t. A lot of the old episodes haven’t aged well, but then again, these aren’t old episodes. The Kickstarter-funded MST3K revival still has series creator Joel Hodgson at the helm, but with a whole lot of new bad movies to lampoon and a completely new cast. Well, a new human cast, anyway — Crow T. Robot and Tom Servo are eternal.
Girlboss: Season 1 – April 21
Probably would’ve checked it out because of the name alone, but this adaptation of Sophia Amoruso’s autobiography should be an engrossing watch. She’s the founder and now former CEO of Nasty Gal, the online fashion giant that started out as an eBay shop before going off on its own — and running into a lot of controversy and rankling customers and employees alike before recently going bankrupt. Oh, spoiler alert!
Kubo and the Two Strings – April 8
This animated movie set in ancient Japan had a relatively quiet theatrical run, but was almost universally beloved by critics. If you passed on shelling out theater bucks, now’s a good time to see what the fuss is about.
DC’s Legends of Tomorrow: Season 2 – April 12
As we know, TV is where the good DC stuff is. If you didn’t catch the show while it was airing on the CW, the entire second season will be on Netflix a week after the season finale airs on the network.
Gremlins – April 1
As if you needed an excuse to watch Gremlins again.
