Don’t call her a Padawan — while it looks like young Rey is in for some training, it might not be of the Jedi kind. We’ve now got a good idea of what Luke Skywalker’s been thinking about during his decades of isolation — that the galaxy would be better off without Jedi. “It’s time for the Jedi to end” punctuates the debut trailer of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and there’s an awful lot of Luke lurking around in the shadows before we get there.
Lucasfilm released the trailer for episode eight at the Star Wars Celebration in Orlando, along with a stunner of a new movie poster. In the trailer, Rey gets some instruction in the Force (rock levitation = Force 101), with an emphasis on both the Light and the Dark — balance. While she’s learning those lessons, Finn is taking a much-needed recovery nap and Poe is looking like he might need one himself after an X-Wing blows up in his face. We’ve also got a whole bunch of what might be flashbacks, or might be things to come. Either way, a lot of things on fire.
Looks like there’s also going to be a ton of space battles and a ton of new ships, so the movie should bring it on both the drama and action fronts (oh, and the cinematography looks incredible). The movie comes out December 15, 2017, so we’ll no doubt have plenty more to ogle before the we get to see the whole thing.
