With Jennifer Morrison leaving Once Upon a Time after this season, we were wondering if the show would just call it instead of moving on without its main character. Turns out, not only will there be a season seven, it’ll be without even more main characters than just Emma Swan.
On Thursday, ABC announced the renewal of several shows, including Once Upon a Time. But, chances are that, like Jennifer Morrison, many of the actors and actresses had contracts up for renewal, because the cast is getting a major overhaul. While Morrison stated that she made the decision to leave on her own, we’re not so sure if that was the case for the huge exodus today — Ginnifer Goodwin, Josh Dallas, Emilie de Ravin, and Jared Gilmore will all depart after the end of this season.
Fans of the show know that means Snow White, Prince Charming, Belle, and Henry are all gone after this season. That’s a huge chunk of the show’s cast stretching back all the way to the first season, and takes out three generations of the central family. On top of that, Rebecca Mader is also off the show, meaning we won’t see Zelena the Wicked Witch anymore, either.
At this point, it’s easier to ask who’s left. Word is Lana Parrilla, Robert Carlyle, and Colin O’Donoghue will now carry the show, leaving Regina as the central character. O’Donoghue means that Hook will also return, despite having just married into the family that appears to be on the way out.
Those three will be joined by Andrew J. West and Alison Fernandez, who will both make their debuts during the season finale this Sunday. The production team has been able to keep their roles a secret, but with so many series regulars making their exits after Sunday, it’s a good bet they’ll be set up for major roles next season.
