The Second It Trailer Takes Us Back Into the Sewers

We got a lot more from the MTV Movie and TV Awards than a new Wonder Woman trailer and Emma Watson taking down the first gender-neutral acting award. Sunday’s event also saw the airing of the second trailer for Stephen King’s It, just a month after the first one crawled out of the Derry sewers.

This time, we’re getting a full look at Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise the Clown — in other words, we see the red balloons float all the way up this time. We also get reintroduced to Trashmouth, otherwise known as the kid who a lot of us won’t admit we were years ago. If you’re wondering why that’s his nickname, the trailer makes it clear as mud (well, something else resembling mud, anyway).

The theme of childhood trauma runs through Stephen King’s classic horror novel, and that trauma is exactly what Part I will be about. A Part II is planned, which, without going into detail, makes sense given how the novel is constructed (it’s not one of those gratuitous things like The Hobbit trilogy or when they split the last Harry Potter and Hunger Games books into two movies). It: Part 1 – The Losers Club will be out on September 8, but the status of Part 2 is unknown — New Line Cinema is still waiting to fund the cameras until they know they’ve got a hit on their hands. From the looks of it, they should probably loosen up the purse strings.
