The first wave of post-Apple acquisition Beats headphones included the Powerbeats3, the updated version of Beats’ exercise-focused in-ear headphones. They ended up being almost the same as the Powerbeats2, with the addition of Apple’s new W1 chip and fast charging. That wasn’t a bad thing — they retained the same great, surprisingly balanced sound of the previous generation.
Those Powerbeats3 in-ears are getting a new color option later this month. With a handful of title winners on their roster of athletes in LeBron James, Tom Brady, Draymond Green, and newly-crowned and undisputed heavyweight champ Anthony Joshua, Beats figured it was time to go gold.
It’s a break from the other Powerbeats3 color options. Instead of a black outer face with color on the sides and eartips, the new Trophy Gold colorway takes the all-black model and dabs in some gold paint around the b logo. Definitely not as flashy, which I guess is a statement about how to be a champion? No idea.
The Trophy Gold model will be available starting on May 26 directly from Apple, both online and in stores. They can also be found in AT&T stores, with a full retail launch coming in July.
