Spotify and Hulu Kick Off Their Partnership With This Awesome Student Discount

Undergrad students in the United States will effectively get a Hulu subscription for free.

Not a bad back to school gift! Spotify and Hulu are engaging in a partnership to promote each other’s streaming services, and their first move is to give undergrad students a pretty sweet deal heading into the school year. Current students with a .edu email address from an accredited institution will be able to sign up for both Spotify Premium and the limited-ad tier of Hulu for $5 per month.

The deal starts today and is open to new subscribers and current subscribers to one or both of the services. On the Spotify side, students who have already signed up for Spotify Premium for Students at the discounted $5 rate can now link a Hulu account to basically get a Hulu subscription for free. Students who have signed up for the $8 limited-ad Hulu tier can link their accounts to Spotify, which will activate the special $5 price for both services.

While this is only for current students, it sounds like Spotify and Hulu are far from done. The joint press release talks about a wider-ranging partnership, so it’s possible we could see some more package deals from the two streamers in the months to come. With cross-promotion all the rage all of a sudden — T-Mobile and Netflix just linked up this past week, too — that seems pretty likely.
