All aboard the hype train to Hogwarts! Niantic, the wizards behind Pokémon Go, are working their magic to bring us Harry Potter in the real world. Like Pokémon Go, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will be an augmented reality game — you’ll walk around the city and, where in Pokémon Go you’d randomly stumble across Pokémon, in the new game you’d find wizards, magical creatures, and who knows what else? People are going to be shouting expelliarmus on the subway, and it’s going to be wonderful.
But, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. So far, Niantic has just offered up a brief announcement, saying that the game will be out sometime in 2018. The only hard information we’ve got from that announcement is that in the game, players “will learn spells, explore their real world neighborhoods and cities to discover & fight legendary beasts and team up with others to take down powerful enemies.”
Sounds good to us, but hey, Pokémon Go wasn’t always a nice walk in the tall grass. Niantic has caused plenty of headaches by making it harder than they should to find and capture Pokémon, and all the magic in the world won’t help them if they make the same mistakes with Harry Potter. So, let’s give them a helping hand!
