2018 is almost here, and because in the 21st century we know on any given day what movies are going to come out for the next three years, we can start planning out our theater trips as soon as we want! Here’s what will have us buying eating overpriced popcorn in the year to come.
Avengers: Infinity War – May 4, 2018
How could it not be on the list? It wouldn’t be dishonest to say Avengers: Infinity War is a movie ten years (probably more) in the making. Marvel Studios already had plans for a broader cinematic universe when the original Iron Man came out in 2008, with the first major arc culminating with the massive team-up in Infinity War. The MCU has been meticulously plotted since day one, and it’s shown — now it’s time to see how it all ends, and how the next chapter (one Marvel Studios has been very quiet about) begins.
Solo: A Star Wars Story – May 25, 2018
Next up for Star Wars: another one-off story, this one about Han Solo’s life before he shot Greedo. It’ll have the Millennium Falcon, Donald Glover as a young Lando Calrissian, and a new director — Ron Howard took over well into production for Christopher Lord and Phil Miller, who were fired by Disney over creative differences. We’re excited, but since it’s coming in May, it’ll be the first real test of Star Wars fatigue (something that hasn’t been an issue for fellow Disney property Marvel). In fact, rumors are swirling that Disney is preparing for a bomb, with Ron Howard reshooting more than initially expected.
