Your days of going to the doctor could be over, or at least, numbered. CNBC got their hands on an internal document from Amazon that reveals they’re working towards Alexa possibly becoming your new doctor.
Amazon is reportedly developing a team within their Alexa division that they are calling “health and wellness” and it includes about a dozen employees of theirs. Amazon has not yet gone public with this information, but the primary goal of this interesting group is to help Alexa become more helpful to you when it comes down to your health care.
This would be an amazing development. The group is said to be tackling issues such as care of moms and infants, diabetes management, and aging. They have to do all this while being compliant with all the laws of HIPAA, or the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
This is hardly the first time Amazon would be making health care headlines! Amazon recently partnered up earlier this year with J.P. Morgan and Berkshire Hathaway in an effort to improve health care all over the nation. The program they developed is for Amazon, JPM, and Berkshire Hathaway employees right now, but what they’re doing could one day be rolled out to other companies or could end up revolutionizing the whole medical field.
It’s no secret the medical industry is in dire need of a revolution, and here’s hoping that Amazon could be the one paving the way here. Amazon already tackled health food being more affordable with their acquisition of Whole Foods.
“We’re determined to make healthy and organic food affordable for everyone,” Jeff Wilke, the chief executive of Amazon Worldwide Consumer, has said. “We will lower prices without compromising Whole Foods Market’s long-held commitment to the highest standards.”
If they can do the exact same thing for the health care industry, this is exactly the type of stuff dreams are made of.
