The New Gent Lacquered Collection from Swatch offers a view of the gear clockwork ticking away under the surface of each of its colorful watches. There are ten different colors on the lacquered finishes of these watches, all of which are monochrome. The watches actually look pretty nice, and the monochrome look is a good fit for today’s fashions.

The New Gent watches are selling now on Swatch’s website for $75 apiece.

If this was an actual pair of Beats By Dre attached to a necklace, I could understand the appeal. That would be a fresh new way to rock your Beats when you’re not listening to your music, and you wouldn’t need to worry about storage. They’d probably get in the way a lot and be really inconvenient, but still, I could see it.

But, that’s not what this is. This is a wooden necklace with a wooden replica of a pair of Beats as a pendant. I get that Beats are stylish, but this might be taking things a little far. It’s really, really difficult to see anyone anywhere pulling this off seriously, ever. I can only see it being worn ironically, and even then, it’s a stretch. I don’t know, maybe I’m lacking in imagination. If you can actually pull these off, though, you have my undying respect and admiration.

On the upside, they do come pretty cheap. If you must, you can score the Black or Natural Beats By Dre Wooden Pendant with 36 Inch Beaded Necklace off Amazon now for a shade under $13.

China’s Wealthy Women Want Women Bodyguards – Sorry Guys!

To start off, yes – that picture is of a bodyguard-in-training getting a glass bottle smashed on her head. I have never had a glass bottle smashed on my head, but I don’t think I would enjoy it. I don’t think she’s enjoying it either.

She might enjoy the benefits, though. In China today, demand for female bodyguards is rising quickly, at a higher rate than the demand for male bodyguards is growing. In part, this is being spurred by China’s female millionaires – a large group, as estimates say females make up 30% of the country’s millionaires. As Biggie teaches us, more money means more problems, and China’s wealthy women are feeling the pressures of security concerns, as the wealth gap in China continues to widen.

After the training, bodyguards, being in high demand, are paid very well by Chinese standards – as much as $800 per month. In some cases, they are better compensated than male bodyguards. Bodyguards go through a year of training, which involves emergency driving maneuvers, hand-to-hand combat, strength training, and some extra toughening up courtesy of a few glass bottles to the head.

One bodyguard-in-training who was interviewed as part of a Reuters report celebrated her job, taking pride in protecting people and their families and confronting gender stereotypes still very prevalent in China, with women being seen as far inferior to men. So much for those stereotypes – I’d like to see a lot of guys take the kind of abuse dished out above.

There is a dizzying amount of iPhone 4S cases available for you to purchase, especially considering that the phone really didn’t come out that long ago. That said, there might not be a case on the market as adorable as the KiKi Case (even the name gets you!). Every time you look at your phone, you can have a cute little kitty peeking contentedly over the corner – you’d be upset about invasion of privacy if that face wasn’t so darn innocent. I do have to admit, though, that the hole in the back of kitty’s head, while necessary for the iPhone 4S’ camera, is a little disturbing.

We first laid eyes on Uniq’s creative and inspiring iPhone and iPad cases at CES, now we’ve gone hands-on with their Love Uniq line. These glam cases are the ultimate Valentine’s Day gift for your iPad 2 or iPhone 4/4S. I mean don’t they just scream “KISS ME!!”

The iPhone and iPad cases we’ve reviewed is called “Gimme a Big Kiss,” appropriately named for the big red lips popping off of the case.

The iPhone and iPad cases look almost identical from the outside, both have front covers. The iPad cover opens like a book from the right-hand side and the iPhone opens from the top, folding down, like a notepad. On the front of the cases are the big red lips which appear to pop off of the case in total 3D glory. The lips are glossy, textured, and couldn’t look tastier. Thank g-d there is no tongue sticking out.

Below the lips it’s signed “love, Uniq”. The rest of the case is covered in a glossy black plastic. The entire case is reinforced and tough, the front side has an extra layer of cushion. The interiors of both cases is a soft red microfiber.

The iPad 2 case is really nice, it’s not too bulky and yet it’s really protective and comfortable to hold. The front of the screen has the magnetic smartlock feature that turns the screen on and off. The iPad snaps into six plastic holsters for a snug fit. The only deterring factor of the Love Uniq iPad 2 case is that it doesn’t have a built-in stand feature.

The iPhone 4/4S case is great if you keep your phone in your bag or backpack…or if you’re just a bit careless with your phone. The front cover folds down and can either hang down or fold behind the case. All ports and buttons are very accessible. The only drawback is that the cover must be opened in order to charge the case.

These particular cases are probably not targeted towards guys and thankfully Uniq has a lot of amazing looking cases for all sorts of mobile devices and tastes. The Love Uniq line happens to be a bit more feminine, but is undoubtedly fabulous looking. While they may be girly, you can be as tough as you want with them; they’re both very protective and very durable.

The Love Uniq Line can be purchased from UniqCases.com. The iPad 2 Love Uniq cases cost $79.00. The iPhone 4/4S case costs $34.90. Both cases are on the pricier side, but you are paying for the style, durability and the big mouth…

The Good: Unique, stylish, accessible ports, feels nice, protective, durable and the ladies will love it!

The Bad: Pricey, no built-in stands and the iPhone cover must be opened to charge and guys will probably hate it.
