I was taken with the Macbook Air from the moment Steve brought it out on stage. But after I finally brought it home from the Apple Store my love affair ended really quickly. I was experiencing system hiccups, freezing and overheating. I couldn't watch a YouTube video or work on a Word document without the system hanging up. Might as well have spent less money on a EEE PC with better performance. But I decided to hold out and figured that a firmware update would remedy the problem. Indeed two firmware updates did come a long and did reduce the performance lags a little bit but my Air was still misbehaving. Then I discovered this ...
It seems we like to put pictures in and on anything these days, just another example of this is the Smoy Photo iPod Case. The Smoy iPod case is a slip cover case made of brown vinyl with a window frame you can slip photos into. The frame size is 15/16"w x 7/8"h which isn't very big but just big enough to put something meaningful. The vinyl is thin enough to operate without you removing it from the case. Not bad for only $28.00
Even if you aren't a Mac fan, it's got to be tempting to buy a Mac laptop just because of the sheer amount of great cases out there that are available for it. Macally has a professional and slick executive black leather case that is custom designed for the 15" Macbook Pro. The PROCASE protects the majority of the laptop but leaves access to all the ports and the DVD/DVD slot. It retails for $29.99 and a version for the Macbook Air is on the way as well.
Yes we all know about the drill with iPod docking stations, they are either alarm clocks, speaker systems or some other contraption that docks, charges and syncs your iPod. However what if there was just a dock that was simply a docking tray for your iPod without the bells and whistles. Well the miConnection has a collection of unique docks that let you rest your iPod in different crazily designed trays with slots that can connect to your PC or Laptop to sync and charge the player. The designs range from a Guitar, a Skull Head, an alien head, a guitar, a heart, a cat, a skateboard, a Toad, and an assortment of other crazy characters and designs. So who needs just a plain white wire when your baby can sit nice in comfy in a funky dock.
For some buying the Macbook Air it kind of already is an indulgence, so what about slipping it into a $349 case?! Yes you heard right... made out of the finest Italian leather, the Arista is all about luxury. Entirely crafted by hand, Orbino's Arista case is available in five luxury colors: Black, Brown, Deep Red, Whiskey, and Hand-stained Mahogany. Orbino will also offer custom options including limited edition luxury skins such as genuine Crocodile, Snakeskin, and Ostrich. I can hear the calls to PETA already. They also have a preview of their really swanky upcoming Aria case for the Macbook Air which is made of a combination of handcrafted aluminum and ...
Speck's SeeThru Hard Shell Case for Macbooks are very popular, so it was only a matter of time that similar type cases popped up. InCase has their own hard shell case for the 13" Macbook as well. Theirs features a frosted hardshell exterior, raised rubber feet, thermal vents, and a welcome soft-touch coating. The case is available in black, white, red, or purple for $49.95, making it the same price as Speck's but with less color choices. However we already like InCase's sleeker design and that it has a soft-touch coating sounds promising as well.
When I hit the road for a long car trip, I always bring my Nano in order to hear some decent music. I get so tired of the same rotation of music on the popular local stations in the city. So I like to spice it up with variety. I hadn't had much luck however listening to it decently in the car with other FM transmitters in the past. I was still using that archaic method of connecting my iPod to a the cassette tape and then inserting it into my tape deck. But just like 8 tracks, cassette decks in cars are becoming a thing of the past and getting harder and harder to find. So I was extremely excited when I received the Griffin RoadTrip SmartScan and iTrip Auto SmartScan to review. Off to the rental car company I went...
This "Clip-Style" MP3 Player is just what the 2G ipod Shuffle Should have been, or rather what we wish it would have been. This MP3 player takes the same design cues and form factor as the Shuffle, but it throws in an FM radio and an LCD display. Granted, the display looks kind of cheap, but we cant help dream that one day Apple will throw a display on to the Shuffle and even maybe an FM radio. Until then, there will be cheap Asian knock-offs on eBay to inspire us.
We haven't had any exciting iPhone/iPod cases to report about lately but luckily that has changed. Over at Apple.com they just released two cases by Paul Frank. You know, the designer who is famous for the monkey cartoon image of Zoom Julius. So now there is a rubber case for the iPod Touch that features the famous Paul Frank Mascot on the back. The other case is for the iPhone and is an image of a "Slap Bass", also on the back of the case. Both cases look pretty hip and certainly would give your iPhone/iPod Touch a cool factor. Not that they needed more of one. Both cases retail for $29.95
Docking stations for laptops have been around for quite sometime. The premise behind them is simple - plug in all your peripherals in to the dock (your printer, scanner, speakers, mouse, etc) and then plug in your laptop. Thus, you're saved the hassle of having to unplug and replug in all your peripherals each time you put your laptop down on your desk. While there are many docking stations available for PC laptops, Macbook and Macbook Pro owners have been pretty much left out. Luckily BookEndz has come out with a white and a black version for the Macbook as well as versions for the Macbook Pro.
Yesterday it was the "Blade Runner" that looked like a Motorola Razr minus the phone feature. Now we have the Digital Touch which is supposed to be a knock off of the iPod Touch. Gee what an original name... Digital Touch... even right down to the icons, this device wants to give you what you want but in sheep's clothing. As you would suspect, the Digital Touch is also has a touch screen interface, and it sports a 12 hour battery life for music, an FM radio, voice recorder, an e-book reader, games, miniSD expansion, a 2.8-inch TFT LCD, MP3, WMA and FLAC music file support and Mpeg-4 video file support - you know, ...
For those out there who secretly envy the DJ stylings of Samantha Ronson and her brother Mark, you now too can try your hand at winning over the masses. The iSpin from Fashionation is the portable DJ kit for your iPod or other MP3 players. You can also hook it up to your computer to spin MP3s on your your hard drive. The press release doesn't go in to details but from the picture it looks like you can fit in two players and mix them using the buttons and sliders on the device. It will retail for $99.99 and is not currently on their website but it certainly looks pretty cool. I'm ...
For most of us converting Movies or TV shows to put on our iPods and MP3/Video players is second nature. For others though who are new to the whole take it to go video mentality, they may not be so familiar with Handbrake, iSquint and the many assorted programs that rip and convert video files into something viewable on their device. However even if you are, myself especially I often have no time to convert large files from TV shows or Movies I want to watch and sometimes I find myself doing it over again because it doesn't get compressed right or something happens to screw it up. Well this nifty gadget will certainly save you time and brainpower on getting that next episode of Ugly Betty on your Mpeg4 friendly player. The iRecorder ( yes another gadget that starts with the letter i - urgh!) has the ability to attach to any TV that has "RCA jack output from your source, you can plug it into this device's AV-IN jack to record."
Well its been shockingly a while since we posted about skins or covers for your iPods/Nanos/ etc... so it was only a matter of time till we came across something interesting again. Pimp-my-gadgets.com is another company offering funky skin protectors for your iPods, Nintendo DS Lite, and Sony PSP. Similar to that of Gelaskins. PMG also offers extremely cool designs that are different from Gelaskins and many other skins companies out there but sadly they don't offer much selection for other gadgets like your laptop. However they do have a section on how to jailbreak your iPhone....so it's not all bad. Every skin is £5.45 regardless of device and ...
If that Louis Vuitton ipod case we posted about a few days ago was too expensive, or perhaps just not your style, then maybe you'll be interested in a different classy designer bag for your iPod. Coach has two new ipod nano cases to choose from. We say new, because this isn't the first time that Coach has come out with ipod accessories. There is the $42 Hamptons Signature Mini Skinny which comes with a hidden keychain, an outside credit/business card pocket, and a zip top closure. It's available in several color combinations such as Brass/Khaki/Rose.
As we all know iPod dock stations are a dime a dozen these days. However what make the few of them standout from the rest is their design and sound quality. The mStation Orb is one such Docking/Speaker Station that is great looking and great to listen too and we were lucky enough to review it.
Setup/Installation:
When we excitedly unpacked the Orb from its box we were greeted with a pretty slick docking station that resembles a red tomato. Other items included inside the box are 10 docking cradles, all in red as well as a color coordinated remote control, a USB Cable, and a stereo mini cable. On top of the Orb are 6 buttons: power, volume controls, previous, forward, and play/pause. These buttons are also located on the remote and you can also control the Bass and Treble from the remote. The remote is thin and light weight, only somewhat bigger than a credit card. Overall, setup was easy, and we easily snapped in the appropriate cradle for our 3rd generation Nano. Besides using the included cradles there is a Firewire port that allows you to connect really older iPod generations, which is a great feature that most iPod docking stations don't have. Then we plugged in the AC adapter to power the speaker and the included USB cable for syncing the Orb to your computer. The whole set-up took less than 5 minutes and even though there were instructions included, we figured it out on our own.
For those who already pre-ordered the Stella McCartney Laptop sleeve why not add to your credit card debt with the Louis Vuitton iPod Widescreen Case. Also designed by Takashi Murakami, we had written about the white version a while ago but that was for the previous generation iPod. This one fits the 6g widescreen generation. The case provides a dock plug-in, earphone opening, and a protective flap with 2 studs. And it can be worn around your waist or across the shoulder.
There are many of us out there that will never spend hundreds of dollars on a Louis Vuitton or Coach iPod case, but we still would prefer to dress our beloved iPods in some sort of designer name. Luckily Paul Frank, has two new spiffy ipod cases for the 30GB and 80GB ipods. The cases are made of top grain leather with built in micro fiber suede lining and a clear PVC screen protector. There is a pink neapolitan version for girls and a woodgrain version for guys.
What does your ipod case say about you? If you purchase Agent 18's New FlowerVest Protective Cases for the iPod Touch or Nano, then we'd label you as a free spirited hippie type or just plain girly. Available in pink with pink flowers or brown with blue flowers, these cases are made of soft silicon, with the Nano version featuring a clear polycarbonate lens to protect the nano’s screen. The cases retail for $39.99 for the Touch version and $19.99 for the Nano version.
Here we go - another creative way of using your iPod. Named the iNo, because g-d forbid any device for the iPod shouldn't have an "i" in it, sorry ranting. The iNo is a trivia game that will surely be a great drinking game. Get all your friends together with their iPods, I'm sure you know a few. Plug them in at random into the iNo module which supposedly has a good quality speaker and start playing this unique music trivia game. The players are supposed to guess the title and artist of the song that is being played on the iPod. So once and for all you will know who exactly out of all your friends bought the latest Britney album. Four color coded scoreboards, four electronic wireless remote controls, and 50 action cards are also included and add to the excitement of the game.
Eight tracks, casette tapes, and LP's are all a distant memory of the past for how music used to be distributed. Many folks still agree that their old 45's sound better than any MP3 out there now. So what if you could preserve your classic Frampton and Beatle LP's before they become completely unplayable. SmithGear has The LP to iPod Converter. What is this you say? Well it has the ability to play 33 1/3 and 45 records on a turntable which can then be transfered directly to to an iPod. 5th generation iPod's are supported and 2nd Generation iPod Nano's. You also have the ability to output to a stereo with a CD. Software is included to fix different pop, hisses, and scratch sounds. But if you remove all of that, what was the point, you might as well have bought the MP3 from iTunes.
