Lego my eggo or rather Lego my computer, that is what Luke Anderson did in his Cape May N.J home. This lego aficionado decided that he wanted a small computer to use as a web/development server. So what better way then to make it out of Legos. The case was contructed entirely out of black legos and the insides are made of real computer parts to make a fully functional computer. Luke even put the full instructions up online on how to do this at home as well as a video of him building it himself. In the end he used 1039 legos to make his computer. I couldn't even build a ...
AMD has some innovative new products and technologies coming out soon and we got a sneak preview at them. First up is the upcoming Maingear Axcess HD Media Center, which isn't just your average home entertainment media center PC. The Maingear Axcess HD Media Center is not just made to fit in with your AV equipment - it's made to consolidate much of your AV equipment as well. The Maingear Axcess HD Media Center features the AMD 780G chipset with ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics and AMD Phenom multi-core processors. It's also got all the important ports you'd expect - firewire, eSata, dvi and HDMI for output of up to 1080p on your TV. The PC will come with Axcess HD which is basically software comparable to Windows Media Center but with a whole bunch of neat tricks up its sleeves: like the ability to view multiple videos all at once on a curved 3D wall, the ability to surf the internet while watching a video simultaneously, the capability to record shows directly to its hard drive like a proper DVR, the power to remotely view recordings (a lot like Sling) and finally, the option to have recordings transfer directly to your iPod or other digital media player by connecting it via USB to the Maingear Axcess HD. The Maingear Axcess HD Media Center will be available in August at MainGear.
Speck's SeeThru Candy Colored Hard Shell for the iMac has been designed with two purposes in mind. 1. To protect your sexy iMac from the elements 2. To give it a unique look. The first time we laid eyes on the SeeThru, it instantly brought us back memories of candy colored shell iMacs of yore. So there is definitely a retro design element to the SeeThru.
I'm not really a fan of FPS type games. However unlike me, there are MANY folks out there that are. Just one such fan of the game PORTAL asked another fan to make him a custom computer rig for his wife. In the end it was called the Weighted Companion Cube. To those who play Portal I assume that means something to you but to me I was just drawn to the big pink hearts and overall complexity of the rigged computer. There is even a Blu-ray drive inside. I hope that this person's wife wasn't expecting diamonds... (Source: Maxium PC, July '08)
When it comes to building your own rig, the choices for PC cases tend to be very plain or very masculine. The In Win Allure case is covered in purple illustrated flowers and Swarovski crystals. Spec-wise the petite case is a mini tower with two USB ports, a firewire port and 4 PCI expansion lots. Albeit a bit pricey at around $110, it certainly seems worth the price for a such a lovely PC. We wish that you could order one custom built as well instead of just DIY.
When it comes to custom paint jobs for your computer or ipod, ColorWare is probably the first company that comes to your mind. But they definitely aren't the only custom paint job company on the market. CSX offers a selection of unique custom paintjobs for your rig or ipod. Green Flames, skulls, and an adorable "Orange shag wagon" re just some of the chassis you can choose from. You can also choose from customizes ipods, a Nintendo DS or a gaming laptop. Granted the prices are not cheap, but you expected as much.
In honor Earth Day let me introduce the KPC from Shuttle. Not only it is compact, it's customizable, expandable, and green. This cute little computer is compact and comes pre-installed with all the applications you could use to do simple tasks. However it is expandable to add more memory and with the USB ports you can sync your MP3 player or cell phone. One of the stand out features of this computer is that it comes in different colors and the front of the computer has a frame were you can slip in photos. Finally the energy efficiency is another plus because of its size, less materials are used to manufacture the device and it requires less than 55W of energy to operate it.
Probably the ugliest looking keyboard I've every seen and what looks like it could be a shell from an old Commodore 64 keyboard back in the day, this "All in One PC" or what better known as the ZPC-GX31 from Cybernet, stuffs all the guts of a computer into a keyboard chasis. The computer sports an Intel Core 2 Quad CPU, 4MB of DDR2/667Mhz RAM, 1GB LAN and DVI interface, 4 USB ports, Audio Inputs/Outputs, Ethernet Jack, PS/2 inputs, optical drive CDRW-DVD or DVD+/-RW, Intel Graphics Card, a Serial ATA HD, and several fans to keep the unit cool. You can customize your keyboard with options that could range anywhere from $699.00 to $1099.
Ergonomic chair - check, ergonomic keyboard-check, ergonomic mouse-check, Banana Wrist Cushion - huh? Yes, you heard right. Like most people these days about 75% of your day is spent on the computer. Whether it is for work or pleasure. So when you spend that much time on one, you want to be comfortable. Well the Banana Wrist Cushion might look funny but it also works as a good support for your wrist. And yes, it is shaped like banana, but it won't turn brown like one. This cushion is super cute and looks like it will support the most tired of wrists. So don't slip on a banana peel, rest a wrist on one ...
Not all gadgets inspire lust, but that doesn't mean that they aren't worth mentioning. Sima Products has three kinds of USB multi cables that are a must tool to have for many different types of tech professionals, whether you are a video enthusiast or an IT guy. For instance they have a USB multi cable with firewire. It's a single $69.95 cable that sports multiple USB and firewire connectors to charge or connect. That means that you can travel with just one cable instead of multiple, and it also makes locating a specific connector a lot easier as opposed to sifting through all those boxes of tangled wires that we most of us tend to have.
The EZ Dupe's DVD Coach Ultra Slim Single-Target Portable DVD Duplicator is the world's most portable DVD duplicator. Aside from burning DVDs and CDs, it can also connect to a regular computer to operate as a LightScribe drive. The DVD Coach can burn DVDs up to 8X and CDs as fast as 16x. That isn't super speedy but with such a small chassis, you can't expect too much.
If there is one thing we take for granted, its chairs. They help us rest and take a load off of our feet and they even keep our bum warm! These sets of miniature designer chairs from Firebox celebrate some of the finest chairs ever created. The Heart Cone Chair by Verner Panton (1959), the Grand Confort by Le Corbusier (1928), and the Chaise Longue by Le Corbusier (1928) are just some of the designer chairs available - with each chair being 1/12 scale of the original. We would've never imagined that miniature furniture would make such adorable desktop decorations, but they certainly would compliment our computer work area. A random chair from ...
Not sure what to do with that old Mac? Instead of throwing it out, how about transforming that piece of e-waste in to a work of art. The Apple Collection has a whole collection of links and photos of different Mac Aquariums that different creative people have built and designed. Overall, we are quite surprised by the amount of people that have transformed their old macs in to aquarium. If you fancy yourself up to the challenge, one hobbiest even has dedicated a whole web site with the steps needed to create your own iMacQuariam.
Spotswood Custom Computer specializes in a very unique PC, or rather it beats to its own drum. That is because their "L" series PC case looks like a drum kit. Uberclok manages to offer their customers powerful gaming rigs at an average a third of the price of comparable PCs. How do they do it? They overclock their PCs to the max. SkinIt and HP have teamed up together to create exclusive skins to customize your HP products with. Whether you have a HP digital camera, a laptop, a desktop, or even one of their printers, there are custom skins available for most of their popular products. You can choose from their own collection of designs which includes categories such as Video games, fashion and sports, just to name a few. Or you can upload your own design or photo. Overall, it's great to see a big company like HP encouraging personalization of their products, even if it just a skin.
