In honor Earth Day let me introduce the KPC from Shuttle. Not only it is compact, it's customizable, expandable, and green. This cute little computer is compact and comes pre-installed with all the applications you could use to do simple tasks. However it is expandable to add more memory and with the USB ports you can sync your MP3 player or cell phone. One of the stand out features of this computer is that it comes in different colors and the front of the computer has a frame were you can slip in photos. Finally the energy efficiency is another plus because of its size, less materials are used to manufacture the device and it requires less than 55W of energy to operate it.
Probably the ugliest looking keyboard I've every seen and what looks like it could be a shell from an old Commodore 64 keyboard back in the day, this "All in One PC" or what better known as the ZPC-GX31 from Cybernet, stuffs all the guts of a computer into a keyboard chasis. The computer sports an Intel Core 2 Quad CPU, 4MB of DDR2/667Mhz RAM, 1GB LAN and DVI interface, 4 USB ports, Audio Inputs/Outputs, Ethernet Jack, PS/2 inputs, optical drive CDRW-DVD or DVD+/-RW, Intel Graphics Card, a Serial ATA HD, and several fans to keep the unit cool. You can customize your keyboard with options that could range anywhere from $699.00 to $1099.
Ergonomic chair - check, ergonomic keyboard-check, ergonomic mouse-check, Banana Wrist Cushion - huh? Yes, you heard right. Like most people these days about 75% of your day is spent on the computer. Whether it is for work or pleasure. So when you spend that much time on one, you want to be comfortable. Well the Banana Wrist Cushion might look funny but it also works as a good support for your wrist. And yes, it is shaped like banana, but it won't turn brown like one. This cushion is super cute and looks like it will support the most tired of wrists. So don't slip on a banana peel, rest a wrist on one ...
Not all gadgets inspire lust, but that doesn't mean that they aren't worth mentioning. Sima Products has three kinds of USB multi cables that are a must tool to have for many different types of tech professionals, whether you are a video enthusiast or an IT guy. For instance they have a USB multi cable with firewire. It's a single $69.95 cable that sports multiple USB and firewire connectors to charge or connect. That means that you can travel with just one cable instead of multiple, and it also makes locating a specific connector a lot easier as opposed to sifting through all those boxes of tangled wires that we most of us tend to have.
The EZ Dupe's DVD Coach Ultra Slim Single-Target Portable DVD Duplicator is the world's most portable DVD duplicator. Aside from burning DVDs and CDs, it can also connect to a regular computer to operate as a LightScribe drive. The DVD Coach can burn DVDs up to 8X and CDs as fast as 16x. That isn't super speedy but with such a small chassis, you can't expect too much.
If there is one thing we take for granted, its chairs. They help us rest and take a load off of our feet and they even keep our bum warm! These sets of miniature designer chairs from Firebox celebrate some of the finest chairs ever created. The Heart Cone Chair by Verner Panton (1959), the Grand Confort by Le Corbusier (1928), and the Chaise Longue by Le Corbusier (1928) are just some of the designer chairs available - with each chair being 1/12 scale of the original. We would've never imagined that miniature furniture would make such adorable desktop decorations, but they certainly would compliment our computer work area. A random chair from ...
Not sure what to do with that old Mac? Instead of throwing it out, how about transforming that piece of e-waste in to a work of art. The Apple Collection has a whole collection of links and photos of different Mac Aquariums that different creative people have built and designed. Overall, we are quite surprised by the amount of people that have transformed their old macs in to aquarium. If you fancy yourself up to the challenge, one hobbiest even has dedicated a whole web site with the steps needed to create your own iMacQuariam.
Spotswood Custom Computer specializes in a very unique PC, or rather it beats to its own drum. That is because their "L" series PC case looks like a drum kit. Each case is made of maple veneer plywood and you can customize it with your choice of wood stained colors. The case sports mylar side panels which are easily removable and they allow quick access to the PC's components. One thing is for sure, this is one rig that no one will think is a PC. Pricing begins at $389 for just the case.
Uberclok manages to offer their customers powerful gaming rigs at an average a third of the price of comparable PCs. How do they do it? They overclock their PCs to the max. SkinIt and HP have teamed up together to create exclusive skins to customize your HP products with. Whether you have a HP digital camera, a laptop, a desktop, or even one of their printers, there are custom skins available for most of their popular products. You can choose from their own collection of designs which includes categories such as Video games, fashion and sports, just to name a few. Or you can upload your own design or photo. Overall, it's great to see a big company like HP encouraging personalization of their products, even if it just a skin.
We can only imagine why someone would want to use such a device, and we're certainly not recommending it. But assuming you are James Bond or the Bionic Woman, then this is a gadget that would come in handy. KeyCarbon's USB Keystroke Recorder records everything typed on a USB keyboard - up to 2 million keystrokes. The mischievous device even installs if the computer is off, you just have to connect it to the keyboard's USB cable. ricing for the Keystroke Recorder begins at $187 for the 512kb version which holds up to 500,000 keystrokes. The "premium" version retails for $447 and features 128 bit encryption.
The new iMac is really tough to compete with, but according to Stuff Magazine, Meivo's E4300 touts enough features to give it a try. The Meivo is a slick 22" all in one media center PC and TV. A Core 2 Duo processor, 1GB of ram, 250GB hard drive, bluetooth and 1.3megapixel camera come standard. Unfortunately 250GB isn't much nowadays, though it does have an eSata port for expanding it. And while not as good looking as the iMac, the Meivo is very nice looking and it looks like it would fit right in with your living room easily. Pricing begins at £899.00. Remember, the Powerdesk that came with a PC built in to it? Well the minimalistic desk is finally available to customize and purchase online. Just to refresh, the clutter-free PC has all of its USB ports, optical drives, and headphone and mic ports built in to the actual desk. Starting at £1199 you can choose from a selection of four different desks outfitted with a choice of two different Dell Optiplex PXs and you can also choose a comfy executive chair to complete the package. Hardly an affordable package, but definately one of a kind if you can't stand wires.
Everyone knows that South Korea is light years ahead of us when it comes to gadgets, so this tidbit shouldn't come as a total surprise, yet we are surprised anyway. The Seoul metro system in South Korea has "Digita' Stations" sprinkled through out of it. Each station consists of a free computer to use to get online. The PC has a memory card reader for uploading photos and there is also a convenient cell phone charging port located in each station. Overall, we don't know what is more amazing - the fact that they are free to use, or that they aren't always being vandalized. (Source: Laptop Magazine, October '07)
Iogear's MiniView Micro DVI PS/2 KVM Switch is not exactly an exciting gadget but it's one of the best KVM switches. A KVM switch is the most efficient way of sharing peripherals between two computers. In other words, let's say you have two computers which and you would like to share the same mouse, keyboard, monitor, microphone and speakers on for use with both computers. A KVM can switch makes that happen. Thus a KVM switch is a practical tool to have in your dweeb arsenal - it's both a space saver and a money saver. The new MiniView KVM switch is extra special, because it supports DVI as opposed to VGA like most ...
Computer modders aren't just smart, they are also really ingenuitive. Computer Shopper Magazine recently held a Hot Mods contest and has just posted the winners. The winning prize went to the creator of the Atlas Mech mod. Amongst the runner ups was a Spiderman 3 mod, a Gerbil Cage Mod, a Dallas Stars Mod, and a Vintage Console Radio Mod. Needless to say, we are very impressed with these mods, so much so that we're almost inspired to build our very own. Perhaps a mod that pays homage to Ms. Kitty herself is in order?
Most often, DIY custom game rigs tend to be dark and masculine. Which is why we're excited to see a component that is a little software on the eyes, The Zerotherm BTF95 is a CPU heat sink shaped like a butterfly. Made of copper, the design providers lots of surface for cooling and it supports current socket AMD or Intel processors. The Zerotherm BTF95 retails for $45. (Source: Computer Shopper, September '07)
We all get it- Global Warming is happening. Outside of buying different light bulbs, what can be done? How do you wade through all the “green products” and make the most informed decisions possible? MyGreenElectronics.org is a Consumer Electronics Association website aimed at demystifying the lush leafy world of electronic greenness.
The site is divided into 4 instructional sections of 4 R’s- Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Rethink.
Reduce-
This section contains an energy calculator that breaks down impact of various devices in your household such as TV, Notebook PC, DVD player, etc. It calculates, on a per average basis, how much it costs to have electronic devices in use, asleep, and off by the time increments you enter in. You may be surprised how much money a merely plugged in device can eat up.
An informative section is “Tips for saving energy.” A few of these include: buy items with the “ENERGY STAR” label (Energy Star is a joint program of the US Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Energy). Go digital on your thermostat. Unplug chargers once device is fully charged. Or my personal favorite- Ask your employer about working from home or a satellite business location to cut your commute. I can see it now, “Come on boss, it’s for the environment!” Well, maybe you will have better luck.
Other sections of “Reduce” include “Tips for extending the life of your electronics with proper care” and “Repair or replace?” The latter contains a link to Consumer Report’s “Fix it or Nix it?” which is a useful table identifying problems of many electronics and whether to keep ‘em or junk ‘em.

Our favorite old-school computer modder, Jeffrey Stephenson is at it again. His latest creation is the Skyscraper Photo PC. He took built a wooden case based on a 1931 Hammond Gregory clock which was designed with the skyscraper-style of the art deco era and transformed the piece in to a modern day PC. Jeffrey gutted the clock and replaced its innards stuffed the case with an LCD from a rooftop mounted DVD player, a motherboard with a fanless 1GHz C7 processor and 1GB of ram. The result is a beautiful antique-inspired piece combined with modern-day tech, just the way we like it.
Unlike most manufacturers that produce the same boring black, white or silver computers, Cenio Computers produces desktops, laptops and monitors in a choice of 16 metallic colors. On top of the crazy color selection, Cenio will also customize their displays or computers with your company's logo.
