Moneual’s Colorful Desktop 101 Series with Upside Down Optical Drive

Moneual's new 101 desktop series has a clean aesthetic design going for its chassis, but that doesn't mean that it's not exciting. To spice things up, you can choose from pink, black, white, green, blue or orange cases. Also, the cases are built with a vertical up/down ejection optical drive. So no the case isn't pictured upside down, it just has an optical drive that works up side down. Why? Because it's different, and being different is cool. The computers also come with a liquid CPU cooler and Dual core AMD CPUs. No word on pricing yet.

HP’s Answer to the Mac Mini, the Slimline s3020n

We hate to be introducing a new product as a competitor to one of Apples, but the Mac Mini was pretty much a pioneer for small affordable "desktop" computers. HP's new Slimline s3000y might not be quite as diminutive as the Mac Mini, but it's glossy black exterior is also very pleasing. Under the hood the slimline s3000y features an 3.2GHz Pentium CPU, 1GB of ram, a 160GB hard drive, built-in memory card reader, a Lighscribe DVD burner and an HP Pocket Media Drive Bay, all for a not to shabby starting price of $479.99 - and that is for a configuration with the bare minimums.

Katana Arcade Cabinet Doubles as a Jukebox and Computer

Designed to sit on a table top, the Katana arcade cabinet has an old school theme going for it - it looks just like a retro arcade cabinet minus all of the bulk. The Katana sports a 17" screen, two speakers and a subwoofer, it comes loaded with over 200 games, plus it also functions as a DVD player, a jukebox and a computer. And being that it is a computer, that means you can play regular PC games on it. The custom-built Katana is now available for a starting price of $2,495 and it can even be customized with your name as a custom marquee above the monitor. And actually, ...

HP TouchSmart IQ770 PC Review

We think the HP TouchSmart IQ770 PC ($1,800 direct) has taken interactivity to a whole new level in terms of how people communicate with one another. Thus, while the Apple iMac can be credited with embedding the entire innards of a computer into the monitor, the TouchSmart all-in-one PC takes it a step further by effectively incorporating the use of touch screen technology and adding a bit of hardware muscle to drive Microsoft’s Vista Home Premium with Media Center as well as intuitively using its proprietary HP Smart Center Software (more on this later). And while the TouchSmart isn’t all built in to the screen, this by far is not a drawback. Nestled under the hood of the TouchSmart PC is a 1.6GHz AMD Turon 64 x2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology TL-52 processor and 2048MB of PC2-4200 DDR2 SDRAM, a 320GB hard drive, slot-loading DVD burner2 with LightScribe technology and the NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 graphics card with 256 dedicated memory, which is enough to make any hard core computer geek green with envy! Other features include: An integrated 1.3-megapixel HP WebCam with a built-in array microphone, wireless and blue tooth access, a 19” anti-glare touch screen monitor, embedded speakers, a wireless keyboard and mouse, a stylus, FM radio tuner, a NTSC TV tuner and over-the-air ATSC high-definition television tuner and a Media Center Remote Control. Clearly HP did not skimp in the hardware department! Also, we noticed nary a flutter in performance as the TouchSmart PC was able to multi-task with having several applications open at once. Setting up the HP Touchsmart PC took less than five minutes and HP’s instructions were very easy to follow. The epic-center of the TouchSmart PC is its Smart Center Software which is activated by touching the “home” key on the front bezel of the PC. Thus, incorporating SmartCenter on the touchscreen gives the TouchSmart PC a truly kiosk feel and enhances the computer experience ten-fold. Using your fingers or the stylus to navigate around in the Smart Center is very quick and responsive and although one was compelled to reach for the mouse a few times, eventually using fingers over the stylus became the preferred method of exploration.

Geeky Father’s Day Gifts at KlearGear

Sponsored Post: Mother's Day has passed, and now Father's Day is just around the corner. KlearGear is a great place to find unique geeky gifts for your dad - or any geeky loved one. In the past we've posted about several of KlearGear's one of a kind nerdy products, including the pocket protector wearing GeekMan Action Figure, the Desktop Air Conditioner for sweaty cubicles and their adorable or scary Desktop toppers for sprucing up your work environment. But the fun and super nerdy products available at Kleargear doesn't stop there. Some of our other favorites include the PC Drawer for $14.99 for stashing hidden goodies inside your tower. For female geeks, there is a big selection as well. Computa, the office god of computing helps protect from crashes, program hangs and ~gasp~ the dreaded blue screen of death. Then there is the funny, yet somewhat disturbing Technology Under Control Candle Woman which is a handcrafted candle of a woman standing on top of a destroyed PC. Yeh, we've all been there. Minus the flames anyway.

Commodore PCs are Back and Better Than Ever

Many of us are too young to even remember the Commodore PC, others have really fond memories of it. After a 20 year sabbatical or so, Commore is back. This time around they're promising some screaming gaming machines. Specs like Nvidia 8800 Graphics cards and Core 2 Extreme processors certainly do look promising, and we especially like the interchangeable casing panels which can be personalized with your choice of art from a LARGE selection of choices the likes we have never seen for a desktop. On top of that they are paying homage to their history by preloading their PCs with an emulator that plays more than 50 classic Commodore 64 games. ...

Acer’s Mac Mini Competitor, the AcerPower 1000

While it's not quite as diminutively small as the Mac Mini, or quite as stylish, the AcerPower 1000 seems to be Acer's answer to the Mac Mini. Measuring 60(h) x 250(w) x 200 (D) mm and labeled as the "3 liters mini PC", the AcerPower 1000 is powered by AMD processors and has support for up to 2GB of ram and 400GB in hard drive space. Pricing is pretty affordable at $479.99 for a config with a 2.4GHZ processor, 512mb of ram, an 80GB hard drive and a DVD burner, but still we think we'll stick with the much cuter Mac Mini.

Shuttle PC’s 1337 SDXI is a Little Guy Who Knows How to Throw Flames

Small and on fire, that is what the Shuttle 1337 SDXI is hoping you will see and feel when you use this compact computer. Internally the Shuttle works on an Intel Core 2 extreme, a 10,000 rpm western digital raptor hard drive, and a 768mb Geforce video card. Transmeta Leaving CPU Business

We have some sad news today, almost as sad as the recent demise of Clippy. Some time ago, Transmeta had ambitious plans of creating the best microprocessors for mobile devices. But now their leaving the battlefield - not victorious, but neither defeated. From the moment of its creation (1995) up until now, Transmeta has been quite successful producing several versions of economical chips. Not only that, they were also licensing their technology to other companies. For example, their mutual cooperation with AMD gave birth to Efficeon processor, which was installed to FlexGo mini-computer distributed by Microsoft to developing countries. Transmeta's business situation worsened significantly in 2005. Its micro-processor engineering division stopped being ...
