AMD has some innovative new products and technologies coming out soon and we got a sneak preview at them. First up is the upcoming Maingear Axcess HD Media Center, which isn't just your average home entertainment media center PC. The Maingear Axcess HD Media Center is not just made to fit in with your AV equipment - it's made to consolidate much of your AV equipment as well. The Maingear Axcess HD Media Center features the AMD 780G chipset with ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics and AMD Phenom multi-core processors. It's also got all the important ports you'd expect - firewire, eSata, dvi and HDMI for output of up to 1080p on your TV. The PC will come with Axcess HD which is basically software comparable to Windows Media Center but with a whole bunch of neat tricks up its sleeves: like the ability to view multiple videos all at once on a curved 3D wall, the ability to surf the internet while watching a video simultaneously, the capability to record shows directly to its hard drive like a proper DVR, the power to remotely view recordings (a lot like Sling) and finally, the option to have recordings transfer directly to your iPod or other digital media player by connecting it via USB to the Maingear Axcess HD. The Maingear Axcess HD Media Center will be available in August at MainGear.
Are the new Gossip Girl ads making you wait with baited breath for the new season to begin? Well if you just can't seem to manage, why not check out the new Gossip Girl neighborhood in Second Life. Design your own avatar and have them be as stylish and cliquey as you want. The neighborhood where Gossip Girl is, is obviously called the Upper East Side and you'll get to hang out at all the same hotspots like in the show - and even with the same characters. There is a calendar of events over at the CW that will tell you of all the latest happenings. To get started you'll ...
Wall Mountable Speaker systems are a great way to pimp out that new LCD or Plasma you just got, but wouldn't such a speaker be perfect if it also worked as an iPod Speaker? The Sound Bar from Memorex is just what we're talking about. It's an 80 watt speaker with Trubass Surround sound sporting a long rectangular shape that is perfectly suited to be wall mounted below your TV. The Memorex Sound Bar comes complete with dual auxiliary inputs and it retails for $169 at RadioShack.
Samsung's new Touch of Color LCD monitors are the new LCDs on the block to set the bar. The displays aren't just LCD TVs, they also double as computer monitors. Ok, that might not seem like anything extraordinary at first - since most LCDs are capable of connecting to your PC as a monitor, however these beauties sport 1900 x 1200 resolutions so that in the PC display department they aren't lacking. They also come with 2 HDMI ports, twin 3 watt speakers, a 10,000:1 contrast ratio, an optical audio pout port, and a built-in TV tuner. Their 1080P means you can watch Blu-ray movies in all their glory and use them to hook up to your PS3 as well. Their price points are also very reasonable.
Yesterday we got a preview of some of Belkin's upcoming products for the end of the summer and Fall. The new goodies ranged from colorful laptop and iPod cases to some functional and well thought out products for your home like the new FlyWire that lets your Plasma TV go wireless. Oh, and if you're wondering what that mannequin is wearing - it's a dress made of Belkin accessories. Ok, not for sale, but we like it so much so we might have bought it if it were.
This has to be one the greatest finds I have come across on the web as of late. OVguide is an aggregator that lists every video streaming site on the web for your viewing pleasure. On their very easy to navigate site, you will find links to feature length films, different genres that tickle your fancy, and many other types of programming. YouTube is of course on the top of the list but there are many obscure sites listed as well that feature all different types of programing for kids and adults. We checked out a few streaming movies and the quality may not be all that great but ...
Green is all the rage nowadays, thank goodness. And what better way to go green then by making your next big TV purchase a wooden one instead of getting one of those plastic behemoths. Swedx's XV1-46 is a 46" LCD HDTV sports a 8MS response time, a 1200:1 contrast ratio, and it of course comes with HDMI ports. Swedx also sells smaller sized LCD TVs as little as 17" and they also make LCD computer monitors, mice, and keyboards out of wood. You even get to choose from different types of wood, in case you're more of the beech type. We just have to put up the disclaimer that ...
LG 32" LCD HDTV/DVD Combo is not only convenient it's also very sexy. LG LCD TVs have always had that stylish sleek design going for it. However, this verison of the LCD HDTV is not only attractive it comes in black with lovely accents of red. It is also an all in one LCD that has what will not only make a great TV but will also play your DVD R/RW±/RAM, Video CD, and Audio CD. Otherwise, as an LCD, it has the typical items that they all have these days: HDMI inputs, Component inputs, SRS TruSurround XT audio - all this with a 720p resolution. Not bad for a ...
In between watching episodes of A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila on MTV (hides in shame.) I stumbled upon a very poignant episode of True Life, I Live Another Life on the Web. For anyone that missed it I suggest you check it out (it's free to watch at MTV.com). We all work, surf, or socialize on the web now. It's just part of our daily routine. But these woman have taken it step further and truly live on the web by developing emotions with strangers, losing inhibitions and creating an imaginary world that alters drastically from from their real one. One woman is a rock star in ...
So the other day we were walking around Columbus Circle in New York City and noticed some unusual Segways speeding around. We've seen Segways used as a method to advertise products in the pass, but usually they were just covered with a cardboard advertisement. These Segways were a lot cooler then that. Each one had a Plasma TV vertically attached to the front of the Segway, busy playing an advertisement for a new Fox show called Fringe. We also scoped out the passengers side of the Segway and noticed an interesting set up which included a portable DVD player, likely used to control the front display. So is this a ...
Most gadgets come in many different color choices nowadays - except HDTVs. They all seem to come in black, silver and occasionally white. So what is a fashionista color obsessed girl to do? Sceptre's Komodo 23" LCD HDTV isn't a half bad solution if pink or red is your thing. The widescreen monitor supports 720p (1360 x 768 resolution) and it has a built-in TV tuner and a single HDMI jack. The sets can be found online for around $350 to $400. They don't have the sleekest design out there, but many will dig the full color red or full color pink versions a lot. There is ...
While DVDs are actually the latest media to be slowly making their way to extinction, some of us are still guilty of owning some other type of media that is just about completely a goner - VHS. Realistically, who has the patience to spend time transferring footage off of VHS? But every moment that you don't you can be sure that the footage on that tape is slowly decaying. Hopefully, Ion's new VCR 2 PC VHS-Ripping Recorder will simplify the process enough so that it won't be such a hassle. The $200 device connects directly to your computer via USB. Just pop in a VHS tape and use the ...
When we think about it, putting a pocket on a pillow designed to hold a remote does make sense, so why hasn't anyone thought of it until now? Available in black or natural cotton, the Organic Cotton remote pocket pillow has a special pocket with an illustration of a remote control on it. So the next time you can't find the remote? Check the pillows - the $116 pillows. We didn't say that good (or decent) ideas came cheap.
We had a blast at the Samsung Fever Showcase looking at all the great cool stuff coming out soon, as well as what is out already. Below are some of the items that caught our attention.
Samsung Series 4 450 3-D Ready Plasma HDTV:
The first of it's kind, Samsung always thinks outside the box and has introduced the first 3-D Ready Plasma HDTV, allowing viewers to interact with the Plasma in a truly 3-D experience. There will be accessories sold separately, such as 3-D glasses and a PC module that will truly give the 3-D experience right at home. The TV is already available to purchase.
Samsung Series 6 650 and Series 7 750 Plasma HDTV:
Samsung has partnered with USA TODAY to provide the on-demand service of keeping you up to date with sports, news, and stock information. The functionality of this on-demand system will work through InfoLink RSS service, which will provide the content directly from USA TODAY right to your screen. To access the information consumers only need to grab their remote and press the RSS button. There will also be a Wireless LinkStick Accessory so your TV can connect to the web wirelessly without long messy wires. There is also the "Touch of Color" design implemented into all the models in this line that is a subtle yet beautiful with its hue of red frame.
FastVDO's SmartCapture Lite is a device that lets you capture analog video and stereo audio so that you can transfer if to your computer and from there to your iphone, PSP, ipod or the web. Of course there are a million devices out there that do just that. So what makes the SmartCapture Lite different? It claims to be the smallest Consumer USB-based Live Video Capture Device, and indeed it is very small and looks to be the size of a USB key and it weighs just 0.3 ounces like one. Of course you also have to factor in that you'll need to use A/V cables to connect to your TV, VCR, camcorder or ...
My Plasma is my best friend, when I get home it's the first thing I greet. But these days I haven't been feeling so well and I wanted to watch TV in bed. I really didn't want to have to pay for another cable box or get another small TV. I figured I would just turn one of my computers into a TV watching machine. So low and behold we were sent the TV Wonder HD 650 Combo for Mac from AMD to review.
Features:
Included in the box was the TV Wonder Unit for Mac, a power supply, a USB 2.0 Cable, a Driver and Application CD, and a user manual. On one side of the TV Wonder is CATV/FM and DTV coaxial connectors. The other side consists of a USB and power inputs, and on the top of the unit is 3 (red, yellow, white) Composite inputs and s-video jack for outputting to a VCR or camcorder for transferring footage.
Yesterday AMD to showed us the VERY impressive ATI TV Wonder Line by Diamond in person. There is big misconception with the fact that HD quality TV can only be attained through your local cable service provider. But the ATI TV Wonder line proves that over the air HD quality television is possible and available for FREE! But somehow most consumers aren't even aware of it, or perhaps they are but they are skeptical about its quality. We got to see the TV Wonder HD 650 Combo USB ($149) in action and the quality was excellent. Granted, the quality of the experience varies according to the reception in your area, but we were still mightily impressed by the quality of the over-the-air HD broadcasts that are available in New York City. No cable lines - no nothing. It received better reception than the plasma hooked up the old fashioned way in the suite we were in. Regular television programming streamed across the the laptop demonstration, as if I was watching my regular HDTV but in some cases even better. The picture was crisp and clear in 1080p with barely a flicker or boxy/noisy image in sight.
Everyone loves their portable entertainment gadgets - from DVD players, to their TV, and of course that thing called an iPod. But one Multimedia Player wants to try and include everything possible into one unit for your stimulation enjoyment. The iMep3 Mp-7020388R is a kind of portable boom box that supports an iPod, has a 7 inch LCD display for videos off of DVDs as well as TV tuner. It also has memory slots and USB ports, and last but not least is a built in radio as well. Talk about an all in one entertainment system.
Well we have come across alarm clocks with iPod docks, BBQ's with iPod docks, even a toilet paper dispenser with an iPod dock, and now there is a LCD TV with one. Which out of all of these, I think makes the most sense finally. JVC is the innovative giant behind this latest launch which many now probably are hitting themselves saying "geez that seems so obvious why didn't I think of that?!" What is being called the TeleDock is available on the JVC-P series of LCD TV's. The sizes range from 32 to 52 inches and will even boost a 1080P resolution on one the models.
DVD changers aren't a new technology at all, but I was quite taken a back when I spotted a 400 disc DVD changer. I'm inherently lazy and as a result much of my DVD collection sits around collecting dust just because I'm often to lazy to get up and switch DVDs out of their cases and in to the DVD player. If I had one of these behemoths, I could have access to my whole library of DVDs in an instant. This is truly a lazy persons dream. Hard drived based entertainment players are great and all, but they are limited in what you can get on them.
Even though we've never heard of Homer Technology, the iViewer HTM 9000 sounds like a pretty useful entertainment tool. The iViewer lets you wirelessly playback files coming from any multimedia source to a NTSC, Pal or Secam TV. The iViewer claims to work with the iPod, the PSP, digital cameras and camcorders. Though the web site isn't very descriptive, we gather from the specs that the iViewer sends the files to your TV via its mini antennae.
