Boo, The Scariest Travel Site Ever

When it comes to Web 2.0 site names, they just seem to be getting weirder and wierder. Boo, originally a fashion site, has now transformed itself in to a Travel site with a search and comparison engine, user reviews, and a funky Web 2.0ish interface with tags and other elements that you don't often find on travel sites. But is it scary? No, not really. But that headline caught your attention, didn't it. We're sure that they're counting on that too.

MacTrain-ulator Z-Scale Model Railroad Stationed Inside a Mac Plus

Inspired by a trip to Germany's Wartburg Castle, Eric Foxman took his love of Macs and went ahead and built a Z-scale model railroad inside of an old Mac Plus. The model is complete with a moving train as well as several tour guides and groups. Why a Mac? "I chose to use a Mac Plus [since] it could only be done in a Mac. Windows graphics are not up to the job of making anything that looks real enough to simulate a virtual model railroad." (Source: Macworld Magazine, July 2007)

How Hotels.com Stole $1179.54 from Me

I've had my share of bad experiences with .com businesses, but this takes the cake.I've been using Hotels.com for several years and until now my experience with them has been good, so I never imagined that they would outright lie to me. Perhaps this post belongs in a forum somewhere, but it's my blog and I'll cry if I want too. The story begins back in July when I booked a Vacation Package for two people which included a hotel and airfare with American Airlines. A few weeks later I called up to cancel the package. Before canceling the package, I checked the link to the terms and conditions for my package. This is what it said: Most fares have a minimum airline-imposed penalty fee of $100 (plus applicable taxes) per passenger for changes, plus any applicable increase in the new fare. Some tickets are non-refundable, but in some instances may be applied toward future travel (subject to individual airline's policy, time restrictions and any applicable penalties). Some tickets do not allow changes. Fees stated above are estimates. Our agents will calculate final charges.
