Nokia has officially entered the netbook market with the launch of their Nokia Booklet 3G. The netbook is sporting a 10.1" display, an Atom Z processor, and it will be running Windows 7. The Booklet 3g has a nice clean design with a glossy cover that comes in a choice of blue, white or black. But what really makes this netbook stand out is its claimed 10-12 hour battery life. The system also features a neat fanless design, it comes with Ovi software, and it will also come with built-in A-GPS and AT&T mobile Broadband. You'll be able to pick up the Booklet 3G on October 22nd for $299 with a 2 year AT&T Mobile broadband contract. Unsubsidized, it will cost you a whopping $599. The netbook will also remain an exclusive to Best Buy through out the holiday season. If $60 a month seems hard to swallow, there is some light at the end of the tunnel. Today at the Nokia Booklet 3G's press conference, AT&T let it slip that there are likely to be more affordable netbook mobile broadband plans coming soon.
Demola works with Finnish companies (like mobile mega company Nokia) to think up the most amazing new project ideas in the digital service industry. Once these Finnish companies have thought up their most next gen idea yet, instead of passing them off to experienced developers, they let Demola’s task force of rock star students from Tampere, Finland give them a try. Devoting three to eight months of their time, students embark on these projects to create real-life innovations for companies around Finland. Out of the 30 projects that were completed in the first year, 95% of them were then licensed by the companies involved. Can you imagine if Nokia thought that your project was so good, they licensed it? Way better than an A for effort!
From the outside of this average looking office building, no one would suspect that it's the site of Nokia's most secretive research and development lab. Guarded by a frosted glass door labeled "no entry" hides Nokia's inner sanctum of new product development, cutting edge ideas, possible failures, and future technology. This place is where the next big ideas are researched, developed, and tested. When Chip Chick was granted access into Nokia's inner sanctum located in Helsinki, Finland, I didn't see elves or robots testing the newest products, but instead the clean, simple designs that we have come to expect from the Scandinavians. This international team of rock star visionaries that work at Nokia are combining trends with the newest in mobile phone technology. For example, there was a huge
As you can see between yesterday and today we have been posting items about Finland. Why you may ask has Chip Chick gone Finnish? Well when media agency Finnfacts approached Chip Chick with the opportunity to visit Finland to meet with the movers and shakers of the Finnish tech world, we obviously jumped at the opportunity. Finnfacts, an agency that has been inviting foreign journalists to Finland for 30 years, hosted the first ever blogger tour (woot woot!) with bloggers from TechCrunch, The NextWeb, HenrietteWeber, ReadWriteWeb, StartupMeme, and TechPulse360. Focused on social media and Web 2.0, we got an inside look at how Finnish start-ups are trailblazing in the world of tech.
Way back when we had did an extensive review on the Nokia 7900 Crystal Prism "fashion" candy bar phone, we were pretty impressed with the features of that phone and soon after we found out that there would be a flip version available. That was way back in the spring, and finally the Nokia 7070 Prism is out. The same signature diamond pattern design is still relevant all over the body of the phone and so is that quirky keypad with the triangle shaped keys. The solid menu system still impresses as well as all the the other similar features to the Nokia 7900 Prism. The best part ...
If you have the Marlboro Cigarette Box Cell phone then maybe then you would also like the Cigarette Pack Shaped Earphone Headset to go with it. But if you don't have the Marlboro cellphone, The Cigarette Pack Shaped Earphone Headset works with Nokia/Samsung/Sony Ericcson Cell phones with the included adapters. And yes, it's shaped as a carton of cigs that you can talk into. So when someone accuses you of lighting up in a public place, just tell them "excuse me, I'm just answering my phone!" The Cigarette Pack Shaped Earphone Headset costs just $6.79 at Dealextreme.
Here we go again another diamond encrusted cell phone but this time it's the iPhone 3G. We mentioned Knalihs Athem in July for their diamond encrusted Nokia 8800 Saphire Arte and now they are at it again. This is a first for the 3G version of the iPhone and Knalihs Athem is taking the bull by the horns and encrusting the phone with 475 diamonds that weigh in at 3.75 carats in total. Only 50 of these will be made for worldwide consumption. The first 10 sold will cost 10K and then any sold afterwards will increase dramatically. What a bargain!
Not sure what to get the Jolie-Pitts' in honor of their 2 brand new additions to the world? Really, I mean what could two of the most beautiful people in the world want that they don't already have? Maybe the Knalihs Athem Diamond encrusted Nokia 8800 Saphire Arte or a diamond encrusted iPhone .There will only be 20 limited edition cellphones for each made. There have been 1000 Diamonds placed on the Nokia 8800 and 400 diamonds placed on the iPhone. The company behind this lavishness, Knalihs Athem SA, is based out of Switzerland, but does have sales offices in New York and India. And here we had ...
I'm not sure how many of us have money to throw away on gold dipped phones and iPods, but if you do then I have just the site for you. ContientalMobiles.com features a wide array of select cell phones and iPods that have gold, white gold, rose gold or diamond enhancements. So what if your friend just got an 3G Apple iPhone! You can get yours dripping in diamonds or Platinum. All cell phones listed are unlocked including the iPhone and everything handtailored for that extra special touch. There are even white gloves included with your purchase so that you can hold and clean your expensive phone the proper way. Nokia, LG, iPhone, and Samsung are just a few of the phones available. Prices are astronomical at almost £1499 ($5,000 US) for some of the phones and £599 ($1200 US) for the iPods. And if you are willing to pay this much I'm sure they will even ship to the US.
Wouldn't it be great if you could use your smartphone as a portable WiFi router when you needed to? Well with JoikuSpot, you can. The software works with Windows Mobile phones and some Nokia phones. Best of all, it's free. The possibilities for this is endless. For starters, if you travel a lot, you can turn your smartphone's internet connection in to a hotspot for your laptop to use. No more paying for WiFi when you're on the go... sweet.
The Nokia 7900 Crystal Prism is a fashion phone with a truly unique style the likes we haven't seen anywhere else. The Crystal Prism is special edition of the 7900 Prism phone that has been designed in partnership with French designer Frederique Daubal who designed special accessories and wallpapers especially for the Crystal Prism. Like most of Nokia's other model running Nokia's S40 5th Edition, the OS on the Nokia Prism is easy to use, fast and responsive. The 7900 also features an OLED 240x320 display that is really easy on the eyes, very colorful and is very much a pleasure to use. It even makes watching videos and ...
The Helius Solar backpack isn't the first solar backpack we've come across but our green eyes welcome it in to the fold. V-Dimension's Helius comes with ipod/iphone, mini-usb (for Blackberry/Motorola Razr V3), Samsung, LG, Nokia, and Motorola adapters so that you're sure not to run out of juice even if you are in the middle of the desert. Well, gadget juice anyway. It claims to be able to feed your iphone up to 7 hours or a GPS system up to 3.5 hours. It's also got a headphone port so you can listen to your Mp3 player while charging it. And overall it's a heavy duty bag that can hold a laptop up ...
Do you really like iTunes, but you don't have an ipod? iTunes Sync is a free software app for Windows that lets you sync your non Apple made MP3 player with iTunes. The software works with many popular MP3 players as well as many popular cell phones like the RAZR, and the Nokia N95 just to name a few. However it is not compatible with the Zune - why are we not surprised. iTunes Sync is not compatible for Mac but there is a similar program called SyncTunes available for free for Mac users as well.
Would you like a VEPTU phone? No, no I didn't spell that wrong, I know, you think I'm saying VERTU... Well I'm not. So here we go again with that old saying that imitation is the best form of flattery. The VEPTU is a luxury mobile cell phone that looks awfully like the VERTU by Nokia. The company is based in China, gee what a shock. The VEPTU looks distinctly like the VERTU in design and is supposedly gold plated in 18 or 24 carat (I'm sure they mean carrots). There is even a model with diamonds. It has all the typical bells and whistles of any average cell phone these days but the one thing it does lack is the concierge service VERTU offers their customers.
Here is another phone, that just like the Nokia 3500, it's feminine but not overly girly. The Samsung G600 pink edition is not covered all over in pink, but instead takes turns between silver and pink. Feature wise, the super thin 15mm thick slider phone features a 5 megapixel camera, an FM radio, bluetooth, an MP3 player and it works as a Triband phone. You can buy the G600 unlocked for $319.
For those ladies looking for a feminine phone yet something that doesn't scream girly, then the Nokia 3500 Pink edition might be for you. The keypad of the phone is outlined in pink and the back of the phone is pink as well. However it's not a nauseating hot pink color all over, but just enough. Some of the 3500 features are, Bluetooth, an FM Radio, triband service, a Camera Phone, and a Music Player. Overall, it's not a cutting edge phone, but it is well rounded feature wise. The Nokia 3500 retails for an affordable £59.95 or you can find one on ebay for under $199.
A pink Nokia phone now that is something different. The Nokia N72 Triband Cell Phone is not new but we've just spotted its pink version and it is definitely one for the ladies. Its sleek design and overall pink color with graphic on the back shouts style and femininity. Other than its looks, it boasts impressive multimedia functions with a 2 Mega pixel Camera with integrated flash, FM radio, and MP3 capabilities. Record music from your CD's right on to the N72 all viewable on a 2.1 inch high definition display. Make quick videos and or snap quick shots. Basically it's a good balance of girly pink with brains, and so many pink ...
We just recently posted about two very fashion forward phones from Sony Ericsson and Nokia that will be released soon. However it seems that no one told the manufacturers of this big bee-like block of a phone to get a clue. Available at Bamford & Sons, the JCB Toughphone (AKA the Sonim XP1) is not made to look pretty at all but instead resembles a Tonka Truck or a plastic Walkie Talkie. This industrial strength phone can take on dust, shock, water, and constant dropping. Internally the phone has bluetooth, Push to Talk, and dual speakers that are loud enough to hear conversations over any digging of bedrock. To its credit, the toughphone is also available in black / black, black / red, black / blue, black/ green or black / gray choices, but even those colorful options don't do much to redeem its rugged looks.
The Nokia 7900 Crystal Prism is set to be the next big fashion phone when it launches soon. Previously the Nokia 7500 Prism set the tone with its unique cat-walk like design, but Nokia has always been ahead of the curve when it comes to design. The Nokia 8800 is a good example of a high end fashion phone that set standards for other phones to follow after. Now in collaboration with designer Frédérique Daubal, Nokia is set to take the fashion phone one step further with an intoxicating mix of burgundy and black to convey contemporary style. In addition it will boast a 1GB built in memory and 2 Megapixel camera.
In case you're not familiar with the Gizmo Project, it's one of the best Skype competitors out there. The software based VOIP service offers similar pricing to Skype, and even one-ups it with certain features that the mammoth VOIP powerhouse doesn't even have. At last, Gizmo is now available on your mobile as well, so that you can use your Gizmo credits to make cheap national and international phone calls. And like the desktop client, the Gizmo for mobile version allows you to instant message MSN, AIM, Yahoo, iChat and GoogleTalk buddies, so in pother words the software doubles as an all-in-one IM client with the ability to use file transfer to send pictures, ...
Nokia's Series 60 based smartphones aren't nearly as popular in the USA as they are in Europe, which is a shame because there is so much great free and powerful software available for them. One example of that kind of software is Truphone, a VoIP application that allows you to make phone calls. Currently Truphone is running a promotion that if you sign up for their service before September 30th, you'll be eligible to make free phone calls to landlines in 40 countries for the rest of the year. Users who sign up in the UK or US will get their own UK or US phone number, respectively. Truphone also recently announced some new ...
