The Oscars Arrive in Midtown New York – Virtually

It would be nice if LA sent us some warmth and sunshine, instead we get an Oscar-themed sidewalk display. At 1333 Broadway(c/s w36th Street) in New York City there is a window display on hand that will make you feel like Natalie Portman – minus the pregnant belly. The window display in midtown Manhattan features nine linked 46-inch LCD screens that provide folks passing by with a virtual “red carpet experience.”  As people walk past the LCD screens, specially designed sensors react to their motion, trigger virtual flashing paparazzi cameras and spotlights.  Completing their sidewalk “celebrity experience,” pedestrians will receive an on-screen invitation to tune in and watch the 83rd Academy Awards presentation on ABC Sunday, February 27. The sidewalk display also has two digital photo stations, located on either side of the LCD wall. You can pose while “holding” a virtual Oscar statue and then you can email the picture to your friends and family right from the street.   When I accepted my award I made sure to thank all of my Chip Chick readers for this outstanding honor.
