Hands on with Philips Fidelio SoundSphere with AirPlay Speakers

If you were a fan of the Philips Fidelio docking iPod/iPhone docking stations, you about to be blown away once again. Taking full advantage of Airplay technology, Philips today introduced the Philips Fidelio SoundSphere Speakers with AirPlay. What does this mean you ask? Well you can wander around your home or office aimlessly and stream your music over the air from your iPod, iPhone or iPad as long as you are within your WiFi network.

There will be two different SoundSphere’s released –  the Fidelio SoundSphere with AirPlay: DS9800W and Fidelio SoundSphere with AirPlay: DS6800W. The designs of both devices are certainly unique and look like they escaped from the movie Monster’s Inc, but there is another monstrous about the sound that emanates from these spheres, which is both rich and sumptuous. I was given a taste test of several different genres of music and even the deepest base reproduction didn’t disappoint. Each speaker is hand-crafted and will feature a dedicated app to fully immerse yourself in the experience. It will also have a AUX-In for connections to other devices.

The Fidelio SoundSphere with AirPlay: DS9800W will be available in June and will retail for $799.99 at Apple stores. Where as Fidelio SoundSphere with AirPlay: DS6800W will retail for $499.99 and arrive around the holidays. Happy listening.

  1. Either way you go, I anticipate you’ll acknowledge the electronic drums, and what they’re accomplishing to the music industry.
