LaCie Sphère Hard Drive is 360 Degrees of Luxury

Normally, I would decry a luxury tech device with a French accent in the name as utterly insufferable, but LaCie and silver design house Christofle are actually from France, so I guess the Sphère gets a pass.

Sphère is a ritzy-for-the-sake-of-it silver-plated hard drive in the form of a sphere that looks like it might be at home near the end of 2001: A Space Odyssey. The 1 TB hard drive, fortunately, isn’t a gussied up piece of washed-up technology like we tend to see a lot when luxury and tech collide. It has a USB 3.0 port for file transfers, so you’ll be getting speed with your beauty. Of course, the big news here is the painstakingly polished silver plating and the space-age blue LED light at the bottom. Sphère isn’t wanting for looks, truly.

Sphère will be available sometime during Q1 of 2014 on LaCie’s online store. No word on pricing yet, but when it does become available, it’ll come with an optional two-year limited warranty, which might be the rare optional warranty you won’t want to ignore.
